Integration of radiology reports and digital images captured via picture archiving and communications (PACS) systems as a component of the national health service care record is a key requirement for national programme for information technology local service providers (LSPs) for their fully-developed patient administration solutions (PAS) in acute hospitals.Where local PAS systems remain in place, as in the case of the Medway product, the integration process with the PACS is managed as an additional local service by the LSP at the instigation of the trust concerned.

We are working closely with strategic health authorities on funding priorities for the third wave of schemes for new and refurbished community hospitals and services. We will make announcements when that work is complete. All schemes will still be subject to a rigorous outline and full business case approval process.

Yes, we have been considering that, and if the research that we have been doing proves to be useful in this important work, we will certainly take a serious look at it. That is on top of a number of other measures that we have taken, including £29 million of expenditure over three years, 100 new dedicated customs officers and 10 sniffer dogs operating at our airports and ports. The National Audit Office recently published a very complimentary report on the work of customs in detecting illegal imports.
