That this House is opposed to the farming of mink and fox for their fur; notes that mink are highly active animals which in the wild live on and defend territories a mile or more in length; believes that it is cruel to keep mink and fox which are essentially wild creatures in small barren cages; further believes that it is ethically unacceptable for a civilised society to keep animals in such restricted and deprived conditions simply for fashion and adornment; welcomes Labour's statement in its 1996 document New Life for Animals that it is totally opposed to fur farming and will take action to end this cruel method as soon as practicable; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to introduce measures without delay to phase out fur farming by law.
