The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) is working together with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to address the complex considerations concerning the unfreezing of pensions for St Helena. I have recently met ministerial colleagues to discuss this issue again, and look forward to meeting the new Chief Minister soon to update them. We will update on progress in the usual way in due course.

Further to the October 2024 Political Agreement, the UK/Mauritius Agreement concerning the Chagos Archipelago including Diego Garcia was signed on 22 May. The UK is working closely with the US and Mauritius on the arrangements to implement this treaty.
An implementation Bill - 'The Diego Garcia Military Base and British Indian Ocean Territory Bill', has been introduced and is progressing through Parliament in the usual way.

I refer to my right hon. Friend for Berwick-upon-Tweed's comments during the Westminster Hall Debate on 7 December 2022. It is worth noting that Mauritius is one of only two African countries that has not signed up to China's Belt and Road Initiative. Mauritius signed a Free Trade Agreement with China in 2019.

In 2013 the then Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Alistair Burt, announced a £2.25 million package supporting anti-piracy efforts in the Indian Ocean region. As part of this, £650,000 was allocated to Mauritius for the funding of a new courtroom facility equipped to handle piracy prosecutions. Former Prime Minister Johnson and former Foreign Secretary Truss met their Mauritian counterparts at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in June. Former Prime Minister Truss held a constructive meeting with the Mauritius Prime Minister at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 77) in New York in September. These meetings included discussions on the British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT)/Chagos Archipelago. UK and Mauritian officials engage regularly.
The Foreign Secretary's Written Ministerial Statement (UIN HCWS354) of 3 November 2022 stated that the UK and Mauritius have decided to begin negotiations on the exercise of sovereignty over the British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT)/Chagos Archipelago.
