The Government takes hybrid and cyber threats very seriously, and we are strengthening the UK’s defences against increasingly sophisticated attacks. This includes assessing how we will tackle these threats once we have left the EU.
The security partnership agreed between the UK and the EU sets out the broadest and most comprehensive agreement between the EU and a third country.
Although we are leaving the EU, European defence co-operation does not end. Recent deployments in Poland and Estonia demonstrate that we are continuing that co-operation, and it will be enhanced.

The Royal United Services Institute has confirmed that the UK will not be able to replicate many of the security benefits of EU membership if we leave. Since the start of the 2015-16 session of Parliament to 9 March 2016, 17 written parliamentary questions (PQs) tabled to the Ministry of Defence (MOD) were not answered on the grounds of national security. This figure represents 0.7% of the total number of 2,273 PQs answered by the MOD during that period.
In seven further PQs, only part of the answer was withheld on national security grounds.

The UK employs a range of capabilities to deter and defend against the threats emanating from potential adversaries; this includes the potential threat from ballistic missiles.
The cyber threat is continually changing in scope and complexity, and we continually review and adjust our security. Our approach spans technical, organisational, policy, procedural and physical measures.

The Ministry of Defence together with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the Home Office and the Department for Transport, published the UK National Strategy for Maritime Security (NSMS) in May 2014. This cross-Government paper encompasses all aspects of the UK's maritime domain, including the Merchant Navy whose cooperation, as part of the Red Ensign Group, is important to maintaining our national security and prosperity.
The Royal Fleet Auxiliary plays a key role in maritime security either by directly supporting Royal Navy ships on operations or, occasionally, conducting operations in their own right.
