That this House views with grave concern Yorkshire Water Authority's plans to increase the connection charge of a house to water mains from ??37 to ??529 and of a house to sewer mains from ??50 to ??629; notes that housing associations face an increase from ??131 to ??1,155 and that all these costs will feed through into increased rents and mortgages; notes that these increases follow the increase this year in the standing charge for domestic users from ??16 to ??30, following a 33 per cent. rise in the previous year; and believes that Yorkshire Water Authority is outrageously exploiting its monopoly position for the benefit of shareholders rather than consumers and urges Yorkshire Water to reconsider these excessive new charges.
