This is an operational matter for the Chief Electoral Officer for Northern Ireland. However, I understand that on 13 February 2014 the Chief Electoral Officer issued a draft polling station scheme for local and European elections to political parties for consultation.

The Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, my right hon. Friend the Member for Chipping Barnet (Mrs Villiers), has discussed this matter with my hon. Friend the Under-Secretary of State for Transport on a number of occasions. She has made clear to him the concerns there are about this matter in Northern Ireland and has emphasised that it is very important to look at the wider economic impacts of any possible decision that would involve removing work from the
DVA. However, my hon. Friend will also need to consider efficiency issues and the need to deal with the deficit and reduce costs in the Department for Transport. He will also want to consider the best way for drivers in Northern Ireland to access electronic and web-based services to licence vehicles which, unlike their counterparts in the rest of the UK, they are currently unable to do.

The Explosive Ordnance Device teams in Northern Ireland respond with great professionalism to all requests for assistance. We will continue to support the Police Service of Northern Ireland in the most operationally effective way.
During 2012, Explosive Ordnance Disposal personnel have responded on 318 occasions to incidents in Northern Ireland.

[holding answer 12 November 2012]: UK armed forces personnel are currently serving overseas on four NATO-led operations. In Kosovo there are two personnel in Kosovo Force (KFOR) posts (one permanent and one temporary). One member of the UK armed forces is serving with Operation Ocean Shield. 45 UK personnel—the ship's company of a Sandown Class ship—are serving with the Standing Naval Mine Counter-Measures Group 2.
The only other NATO operation on which UK armed forces are currently serving overseas is Afghanistan. The precise number of personnel in Afghanistan fluctuates on a daily basis for a variety of reasons, including mid-tour rest and recuperation, temporary absence for training, evacuation for medical reasons, the roulement of forces, visits and a range of other factors.
We do not, therefore, publish actual figures for personnel deployed. I refer the hon. Member to the statement made by the Prime Minister on 6 July 2011, Official Report, columns 1511-4, and confirmed by the Secretary of State for Defence, my right hon. Friend the Member for Runnymede and Weybridge (Mr Hammond), on 26 April 2012, Official Report, column 1118, that we are in the process of reducing the number of military posts established in Afghanistan to 9,000, which will be achieved by 31 December 2012.

[holding answer 10 September 2012]: Part-time members of the Ulster Defence Regiment who transferred over to the Royal Irish Regiment Home Service in 1992 and were in service on 31 August 2006, received an ex-gratia payment which was part of a package intended to recognise the unique circumstances surrounding the disbandment of the home service element of the regiment. The criteria for this payment would not therefore have been applicable to former part-time members of the Ulster Defence Regiment who left prior to that qualifying date.
Other types of payments, where appropriate, will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
