To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what discussions her Department held with representatives of Coastguard Rescue Officers before the recently announced changes to remuneration were made.
There has been significant engagement through the Maritime and Coastguard Agency with the Coastguard Rescue Service over the past few months leading up to and since the Court of Appeal judgement, on the implications for the service, and since the changes to the model were communicated to members. This has included continual engagement through Area Management Teams, senior leadership visits and national representative forums, as well as two all-member surveys which played a direct part in understanding the impact of models upon the service. His Majesty’s Coastguard will continue to engage closely over the coming weeks to help members understand what the new changes mean for them as individuals.

The Department uses the Office for National Statistics (ONS) Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings (ASHE) to produce estimates of earnings by sector and age group. However, this dataset does not provide for the specific age and wage bands requested.
The Low Pay Commission (LPC) reports that the hospitality sector has a high concentration of minimum wage jobs. In 2025, 24.6% of (or 334,000) roles in hospitality were paid within 5p of the minimum wage rate they are eligible for, compared to 6.6% of (or over 2 million) roles across the economy. Payment within 5p of the relevant minimum wage rate is also proportionally higher among younger workers in hospitality, at 23.3% for 16–20 year olds, compared to 16.6% for 16-20 year olds across the economy.

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, if she will meet with representatives of the banking sector to discuss end of month payday payments.
The Government was concerned to hear of the issues impacting customers of several UK banks earlier this year, particularly given these coinciding with end-of-month payment cycles, but understands that services were quickly restored.
Engagement with specific firms is a matter for the sector’s regulators, including the Bank of England, Prudential Regulation Authority and Financial Conduct Authority, who will continue to monitor the firms and the impact of the issues.

To ask the Secretary of State for Business and Trade, what estimate has been made of the average annual salary of people in receipt of the National Living Wage in April 2024.
The current National Living Wage (NLW) is set at £11.44 per hour. This means for a full-time worker on the NLW working 35 hours each week, their gross annual earnings are £20,821. This will increase to £22,222 after the new NLW rate of £12.21 is applied from 1st April 2025.
Each worker's take home salary will vary as this will depend on a range of factors, including total hours worked, taxes and other lawful deductions, and additional benefits.

To ask the Minister for Women and Equalities, what the Government's planned timetable is for ending the gender pay gap.
This Government is committed to transforming the lives of working women, and that includes going further and faster to close the gender pay gap.
The landmark Employment Rights Bill includes measures to change our workplaces to better support women, including improving access to flexible working; strengthening protections for pregnant workers and those returning from maternity leave; and giving employees basic rights from their first day in a new job.
The Bill also includes a requirement for large employers to publish action plans outlining the steps they are taking to tackle the gender pay gap in their own organisations.

The Government is committed to ensuring that everyone entitled to National Living Wage (NLW) and National Minimum Wage (NMW) receives it. This is why we have more than doubled the compliance and enforcement budget for the NMW and NLW to £27.4 million for 2019/20, up from £13.2 million in 2015/16.
In 2018/19, HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) identified a record £24.4 million in minimum wage arrears for over 220,000 workers and issued over £17 million in penalties to non-compliant employers.
HMRC use a range of techniques ranging from ânudgeâ letters in low risk cases to criminal prosecution in the most egregious cases of underpayment. Without fail, HMRC investigate where they believe an employer is not paying the minimum wage, which includes following up every worker complaint they receive.

What assessment has the Secretary of State made of the impact of prison officers’ terms and conditions and pay scales on their morale now compared with five years ago?
What assessment has the Secretary of State made of the impact of prison officers’ terms and conditions and pay scales on their morale now compared with five years ago?
Prison officers certainly are working under very challenging conditions, not least because of how organised crime is promoting traffic in new psychoactive substances across prison walls, but we believe that not just the increase in numbers but the shift, in forthcoming months, to the new offender management model, under which each officer will take responsibility for about half a dozen named offenders, will contribute to increased morale.

To ask Mr Chancellor of the Exchequer, if he will remove the pay cap for public sector workers and ensure that the Barnett formula for the devolved institutions is reflected in that decision.
The Government’s pay policy has always been designed to strike the right balance between being fair to our public servants and being fair to all those, including public sector workers themselves, whose taxes pay for them. That approach has not changed. We continually assess that careful balance.
