I commend my hon. Friend’s commitment to this issue. I would be delighted to see the return of His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales’s regalia to Wales. The display would present an excellent opportunity to boost tourism across Wales, if a suitable home could be secured.
I am very glad to hear the Minister’s answer, because he will know that almost 50 years ago, 1 billion people around the world saw the investiture. Wales was in homes around the world. His Royal Highness Prince Charles’s regalia is, I believe, sitting in a vault beneath St James’s Palace. I might be wrong on that point, but it is the principle of the thing: it should be on display. The people of Wales should see it. They should be proud of their heritage. When will we see it?

My hon. Friend is passionate about this issue. He highlights the opportunity to enhance our tourism offer, and we will work with him to try to secure that. The regalia should be in Wales; it should be on display to contribute to our vibrant tourism sector.
My hon. Friend will know that tourism is a major employer. Will he take this opportunity of paying tribute to Andrew R. T. Davies, the leader of the Conservatives in the Welsh Assembly, and to Anthony Pickles for coming up with the idea of bringing the Prince of Wales’s regalia to Wales? Will he also praise the Prince of Wales for following up on that idea? What discussions is the Minister having with the Welsh Government to promote this?

I will of course join my hon. Friend in paying tribute to the leader of the Welsh Conservatives. It is important to highlight the importance of tourism to the Welsh economy, and bringing the regalia back to Wales is the right thing to do. I am certain that the castle of Conwy in my constituency would be delighted to host them.
To ask the Secretary of State for Wales, what progress the Government has made on the return of the Prince of Wales' regalia to Wales.

I fully support the campaign to return His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales' regalia to Wales, in this the 40th Anniversary Year of the Prince’s Trust. There has been a lot of interest in this for a number of years and I welcome the agreement of HM the Queen for the symbolic regalia to be displayed in Llandovery.
That this House notes with alarm the recent comments by the honourable Member for Caerphilly about members of the Royal Family; expresses grave concern about his claim that the United Kingdom should be a republic; believes that any person holding such extreme views is not fit for ministerial office and calls upon the Right honourable Member for Sedgefield to sack him as Shadow Welsh Secretary; notes that a number of Labour members have publicly supported the honourable Member for Caerphilly's views; believes that they are out of step with the majority of the people in this country who do not want to live in a republic; and believes that the Labour Party having attacked hereditary peerages in the House of Lords are now revealing their secret agenda to abolish the hereditary monarchy.
