The hon. Gentleman makes reference to the armed forces covenant. It is probably the single biggest change in support and recognises that no member of the armed forces or veteran should be somehow disadvantaged because of their service. He is right to pay tribute to that, and I encourage all hon. Members to visit their local authorities and ask what is being done to ensure that they are living up to the requirements of the armed forces covenant.

As a recognised Nuclear Weapons State under the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), the UK is not obliged to seek an independent authority to verify the reduction in the number of operational missiles and nuclear warheads.
Non-operational Trident missiles are stored in accordance with agreed procedures. The 2010 Strategic Defence and Security Review revision of the number of operational missiles did not change the UK entitlement to Trident missiles, which are supplied from a common pool in the US under a Government to Government arrangement.
Once processed, the fissile material from dismantled warheads is returned to the Ministry of Defence nuclear material stockpile.
As a recognised Nuclear Weapons State under the NPT, the UK is not obliged to place this material under international safeguards.

As a member of the US coalition, the UK is committed to countering ISIL in Iraq and Syria. British personnel have been providing logistical, liaison and surveillance support in Iraq and will continue to do so. From 27 September 2014, following the parliamentary vote, the RAF began flying strike missions over Iraq. We have also recently sent a small team to provide short term training to Kurdish forces. These troops are not deployed in a ground combat role.
Additionally, as part of our preparations for a potential humanitarian airlift from the Sinjar Mountains in August, we deployed military personnel to Erbil. These troops were recovered to Cyprus when it became clear that the operation would not go ahead.

The paper on “The Implications of Current Attitudes to Risk for the Joint Operational Concept” produced by the Development, Concepts and Doctrine Centre (DCDC) was the product of conceptual research to inform the development of the Joint Operating Concept (JOC). The JOC was subsequently re-titled the Defence Joint Operating Concept (DJOC).
The research commenced in May 2012 and was completed on 24 August 2012.
Two analysts worked on the project, for a total of approximately 60 working hours, during that period. There were no additional costs.
The work was never intended for publication but rather to be used, as many other conceptual papers are, as an internal think piece, on this occasion in support of
the development of the JOC. A key purpose of the DCDC is to produce research which tests and challenges established doctrine; its papers are designed to stimulate internal debate not outline Government policy or positions. As a learning organisation, it is important that DCDC is able to challenge existing thinking to meet the threats that the future may present.
We have no intention of using its findings beyond its original purpose.

MINURSO is not mandated to stipulate overall troop numbers. We currently have no plans to request MINURSO to incorporate this into their mandate.

As stated in my answer of 12 December, we do not hold information on how many Moroccan soldiers are stationed in the non-self-governing territory of Western Sahara. MINURSO is responsible for monitoring the ceasefire in place and adherence to the Military Agreement between Morocco and the Polisario. A detailed annual report on these activities is publicly available on the UN Security Council website: document S/2012/197. However, this report does not include overall troop numbers.
