I welcome what the Secretary of State has said. Recently, I wrote to the Minister for Business, Energy and Tourism in the Scottish Government to ask whether it was their policy to block such developments. He wrote back to say that he endorsed the principle of robust regulation, but gave no answer on what their policy was. Will the Secretary of State enlighten us as to whether he has heard anything from the Scottish Government on this matter?

No, I am afraid that I cannot assist the hon. Lady in that regard. All I can do is point to the fact that the Scottish Government seem to be desperate to speak about the powers that are held by others, rather than about the way in which they will exercise the powers that they already have. Her constituents and others will doubtless draw their own conclusions.

DECC Ministers meet regularly with the Scottish Government to discuss a range of issues. As has been the case with successive administrations, it is not the Government's practice to provide details of all such meetings.
To ask the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, what representations he has received from the Scottish Government on the provisions in the Infrastructure Bill [Lords] relating to decisions on an application for fracking.

Petroleum extraction is a non-devolved matter. As such the proposals for oil and gas will apply across England, Wales and Scotland. The proposals on deep geothermal energy also cover England, Wales and Scotland (where in Scotland, deep geothermal energy is exploited for the sole, or main purpose of electricity generation). The Scottish Government was consulted on the development of the right to use deep-level land provisions. Extending the provisions to deep geothermal energy for the purposes of heat, is the subject of discussion with the Scottish Government.
The planning regimes in England, Wales and Scotland will continue to operate unchanged. Companies seeking to exploit oil, gas or geothermal heat would still need to obtain planning permission from the Mineral Planning Authority, along with all other existing permissions, in order to develop a site.
To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many responses to his Department's consultation on harnessing the potential of the UK's natural resources: a fiscal regime of shale gas, were submitted by the closing date of 13 September 2013.

HM Treasury published a consultation document with proposals for a fiscal regime for shale gas on 19 July. The consultation closed on 13 September. The Government received a range of responses which are now being reviewed. The final policy announcement will be made in the autumn and any necessary legislation will be introduced through Finance Bill 2014.

As we committed in the Budget, the government will develop proposals by summer 2013 to ensure that local communities will benefit from shale gas projects in their area.
