To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, if he will make a statement on Kurdish independence within a federal Iraq following the publication of the draft interim national constitution.
That this House recognises the recent development in Iraqi Kurdistan and in particular the attack on Kurds in Arbil and that American insistence on setting up a new administrative government by the end of June this year, dividing the Kurdish areas in three separate provinces and denying the Kurds any real degree of self-government is leading to a crisis in the Kurdish area, where a debacle, similar to that in the betrayal of the Kurds after the First World War, is greatly feared; and urges the Government to refer this matter immediately to the UN for consideration by the UN's special Political and De-colonization Committee to resolve the future of the Kurds peacefully.
