The main conclusion was that there was considerable uncertainty on the most effective approach to preventing early onset GBS infections in neonates. The UK NCS is currently reviewing the evidence for screening for group B streptococcus carriage in pregnant women. The committee will review the international literature and a public consultation on the results will open in spring 2012.The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists is in the process of reviewing and updating the Green-Top guideline published in November 2003. The update will be published in spring 2012. In addition, the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence has developed a new guideline on the prevention and treatment of early-onset neonatal infection, including GBS, which is currently published for public consultation.
