The Leasehold Advisory Service (LEASE) exists to provide leaseholders and park home owners with the advice and information they need to understand their rights and responsibilities and to engage confidently with third parties like freeholders, managing agents and site owners, including on fire safety issues like cladding. LEASE continues to receive positive feedback from customers who have received advice.
The department meets with LEASE regularly as part of sponsorship oversight and this includes scrutiny of performance and financial management of LEASE's £1.9 million annual budget.

Of the nine National Health Service buildings that were identified to potentially have Aluminium Cladded Material (ACM), it was found that one did not have ACM, four have had their ACM removed, two sites are currently in the process of removing their cladding and one has some ACM remaining but due to how the building is used the local Fire and Rescue Services (FRS) have agreed it can remain. The assessment of the potential fire safety defects of the remaining building is currently being finalised with the local FRS.
The Department has committed £10 million to deliver the removal and replacement of ACM across the NHS. To date, capital funding has been provided to all NHS trusts with ACM to pay for its removal, totalling £6.24 million.

The National Health Service has unique fire safety issues given the nature of its services and the patients it treats. Fire safety guidance is provided to the NHS in the Health Technical Memorandum (HTM) 05-02 generally referred to as ‘Firecode’. Following the Grenfell tragedy, a review of all National Health Service buildings was undertaken to identify those with Aluminium Cladded Material (ACM). This identified nine buildings with ACM where mitigation actions were immediately put in place. A public inquiry is not seen as required in relation to NHS fire safety at this time.

As of 14 June 2018, from the results of Building Research Establishment large-scale system tests and the information provided to us by local authorities we know of 297 private sector residential buildings with cladding systems that are unlikely to meet current Building Regulations guidance. Local authorities have told us about plans for remediating 72 buildings. Of these, 21 buildings have started remediation, of which 4 have completed.
We publish the most recent testing programme figures every month in a data release. The latest figures can be found at: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/building-safety-programme-monthly-data-release-june-2018. We are considering what further information it may be appropriate to release.
We have made it clear that we expect building owners and industry to explore all options to protect leaseholders from incurring the costs associated with replacing unsafe cladding. Some in the sector, such as Barratt Developments, Legal & General and Taylor Wimpey, are doing the right thing and taking responsibility. We want others to follow their âlead and we will continue to encourage them to do so. We will consider where further action may be necessary if they do not.
