To ask His Majesty's Government what steps they are taking to protect consumers from artificial intelligence-enabled financial fraud and scams conducted through online platforms and messaging services.
To ask His Majesty's Government what steps they are taking to protect consumers from artificial intelligence-enabled financial fraud and scams conducted through online platforms and messaging services.
This Government is deeply concerned by the devastating impact online fraud can have on victims, both financially and emotionally, including that which is artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled.
That is why, under the Online Safety Act (OSA), the Government has taken action to ensure online platforms and services are required to implement robust preventative measures to stop fraudulent content from reaching potential victims. AI content is treated no differently to other types of content under the OSA – if it is fraudulent in nature, platforms are required to prevent it from reaching users and take swift action if it does appear.
From mid-2027 the largest in-scope companies will also be required to take greater steps to prevent fraudulent adverts from appearing, including those that are AI-enabled.

The Renewables Obligation, Feed-in Tariff scheme, CfDs, Green Gas Levy and Nuclear RAB fund investment into home grown clean energy and account for 5% of the current price cap for a typical dual-fuel household.
Independent research that confirms that renewables can drive down electricity prices, already having reduced wholesale electricity prices by up to a quarter - or around £25/MWh - in 2024.
Over this parliament, we are working relentlessly to translate the much cheaper wholesale costs of clean power into lower bills for consumers: the transfer of the RO costs to public expenditure is a significant step towards rebalancing levies away from electricity.

Instability in the Middle East has shown that Britain’s reliance on international fossil fuel markets leaves families and businesses exposed to volatile gas prices. Levies play an important role in getting the country the clean power we need to protect consumers from this volatility.
The scale of future levies will depend on future policy decisions. The transfer of 75% of domestic Renewables Obligation costs to public expenditure is a significant step towards rebalancing levies away from electricity as part of the actions we took at the Budget, which have taken an average £150 of costs off household energy bills and are now factored into bills for the years to come.
The government will continue to explore ways to lower energy bills for consumers and reduce barriers for consumers to adopt clean technologies. Any further changes will only be done in a way which is fair to consumers.

The Warm Homes Loan Scheme has been allocated up to £300m CDEL and under the Warm Homes Fund up to £1.7bn. The Government is undertaking detailed modelling, in line with departmental appraisal and analytical standards, to inform estimates of the number of retrofit installations that may be supported.
The number and type of measures financed will depend on several factors, including consumer uptake and the technologies installed; and loan sizes and repayment terms. These elements remain under development and analysis and, therefore, the Government has not yet finalised estimates of the total number of measures to be financed, nor any breakdown by technology type or tenure.
