That this House expresses its delight that the international community has recognised the dedicated and unrelenting work of Bihop Carlos Belo and Jose Ramos-Horta, in exposing human rights abuses in East Timor, by awarding them the 1996 Nobel Peace Prize; hopes that the British Government will now heed the plea from Jose Ramos-Horta that Britain should stop selling arms to the Indonesian government; and urges the Indonesian government to work for a peaceful resolution of the situation in East Timor, in accordance with United Nations principles, by ending its brutal occupation and human rights abuses.
