Mr. Bercow: To ask the Solicitor-General how many prosecutions there have been for incitement to racial hatred in each of the past
three years; and what proportion of those prosecutions have led to convictions. [134530]
The Solicitor-General: In 1998 there was one prosecution for offences of incitement to racial hatred under Part III of the Public
Order Act 1986--this resulted in a conviction. In 1999 there were five defendants charged--three of these were convicted. There are
currently three existing prosecutions involving such offences.
