Mr. Paterson: To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what discussions he has had with the Chancellor of the
Exchequer concerning VAT default surcharges enforced on VAT liabilities subject to time to pay arrangements introduced in response
to the foot and mouth outbreak. [156814]
Ms Quin: [holding answer 3 April 2001]: The Ministry has not raised this matter with my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the
Exchequer. However, the Rural Task Force under my right hon. Friend the Minister for the Environment will look at aspects of costs
and burdens relating to the rural economy that arise as a result of the foot and mouth outbreak.
