The following table shows numbers of students from Wales and from Wrexham in particular who enrolled in (i) further education colleges and (ii) universities in England. Figures for further education (FE) are only available for three years from 2002/03. FE learning is funded in England by the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) and statistics derive from the Individual Learner Record (ILR). The FE ILR was collated for the first time in 2002/03 and comparable figures are only available from that point. Figures for higher education institutions are taken from data collected annually by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA).

Neighbourhood Wardens

I am grateful for that helpful reply. In Wrexham, neighbourhood wardens are important parts of community policing teams, along with community support officers and police officers. Local residents tell me that they particularly value neighbourhood wardens because of their close relationships with young people in their areas. Can my right hon. Friend assist me with any evidence that would support the proposal by the Liberal Democrat-led local authority to sack the neighbourhood wardens in Wrexham?

I am replying in her absence. (72670)""The latest available Welsh ward electorate counts are for December 2005. The electorate counts for the last available 10 years (1996 to 2005) are shown in the attached tables. Table 1 shows wards within the Parliamentary Constituency of Wrexham. Table 2, shows wards for the local authority of Wrexham, including those for the Parliamentary Constituency of Wrexham (as included in Table 1)."

[holding answer 5 December 2005]: The administration of Jobcentre Plus is a matter for the chief executive of Jobcentre Plus, Lesley Strathie. She will write to the hon. Member.Letter from Lesley Strathie, dated 12 December 2005:"The Secretary of State has asked me to reply to your question concerning how many telephone calls to the Wrexham Benefit Processing Centre concerning (a) Income Support (b) Jobseeker's Allowance and (c) Incapacity Benefit have gone (i) unanswered and (ii) answered outside the length of time recommended by the department since closure of the Rhyl Benefits Office. This is something which falls within the responsibilities delegated to me as Chief Executive of Jobcentre Plus.""As you know, the processing of Jobseeker's Allowance, Income Support and Incapacity Benefit, previously undertaken at Rhyl Social Security Office, transferred to the Wrexham Processing Centre at the beginning of August.""The Processing Centre has a customer service target to answer telephone calls within 30 seconds and to answer 90% of all calls made. The tables below detail the average performance in the period from August to November."

Additionally, we are currently training a number of extra Incapacity Benefit Processors, who are scheduled to take up post in early January. We are confident these steps will help us to significantly reduce the number of calls that are answered outside the customer service target of 30 seconds.""I hope this is helpful."

During the last general election campaign, I spoke to council tenants in Wrexham who, unfortunately, because of the revaluation in Wales, faced increasing council tax in excess of 20 per cent. How would my right hon. Friend have justified that increase to my constituents on the doorstep?
