The Department for Transport collects information from train operating companies on the average number of passengers arriving at or departing from the critical point (the point where crowding is highest) on services to or from London termini on a typical weekday during the spring and autumn periods. For reasons of commercial confidentiality, this information can only be released with the consent of the relevant train operating company.
