Cold weather payments are paid based on the temperatures recorded at certain weather stations around the country. Residents in Perth and North Perthshire are covered by a number of weather stations. The following table shows the number of eligible recipients paid at least one cold weather payment with respect to each of these weather stations during the past three years.

Cold weather payments are made to benefit units rather than to households or individuals. A benefit unit can be a single person or a couple and can include children. The number of individual recipients is not available. 4. The current 2012/13 cold weather season does not finish until 31 March therefore the figure for the number of cold weather payments for 2012/13 is up to 13 February only. 5. The estimated number of benefit units which have received cold weather payments relates to the entire area that the weather station covers, not just to that in the listed parliamentary constituencies and counties. 6. Weather station boundaries are determined by postcode and are not directly linked to parliamentary constituency or county boundaries. it is not possible to break the data down further. 7. All given figures have been rounded to the nearest 100. 8. Between 2010-11 and 2011-12 there were changes made to the postcodes covered by particular weather stations which explains the large decrease in payments between the years for the Strathallan weather station. |

Almondbank is no longer owned by the Ministry of Defence; it was sold to Vector Aerospace in 2008. The physical remediation of the localised areas of radium-226 contaminated soil at Almondbank is currently scheduled to commence in the week beginning 18 March 2013 in accordance with the contract of sale. The work should take approximately 12 weeks to complete. Some preliminary work has already commenced.

The former Defence Aviation Repair Agency (DARA) site at Almondbank was sold to Vector Aerospace Ltd as a going concern in 2008. The Ministry of Defence (MOD) will be undertaking remediation work as part of a contractual condition agreed under the terms of that sale.
Pursuant to the Environmental Protection Act 1990, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) would be the lead regulator in Scotland for all matters pertaining to radioactively contaminated land. Consequently it would be for SEPA and not the MOD to determine who the appropriate persons are, in the event that the Almondbank site was deemed to be radioactively contaminated land.
