Details of contempt of court hearings are not always held on Her Majestyâs Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) case management systems, and HMCTS do not centrally collate data on contempt of court cases. Contempt of court can cover a variety of circumstances and can be committed by a party in a case or by someone unconnected with specific proceedings such as a juror or a member of the public. Those relating to a specific case will be noted on the court log or daily list and any warrant retained on file. Those not relating to a specific case will be recorded on daily lists and any warrants stored along with other orders. Local practices vary as to how contempts of court are recorded and stored.
HMCTS have checked records of cases heard since November 2014 in relation to Sheffield County Court, High Court sitting at Sheffield and Sheffield Family Court. For those courts, HMCTS have identified no cases where a committal order was made for imprisonment for contempt of court.
It has not been possible to provide information in relation to Sheffield Crown Court or Sheffield Magistratesâ Court. Data are not recorded in a way that enables HMCTS to identify all such cases without checking every case file and every daily list since 1 November which would involve disproportionate costs.

The responsibility for securing an efficient and effective police force, and for holding chief constables to account for the running of their force, falls to the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for that force area. As part of that responsibility, it will be for the PCC to decide whether they wish to seek advice and assurances from independent experts. On Friday 13 March, South Yorkshire PCC Alan Billings announced his intention to commission a ‘Casey-like inspection'.
The Government is taking action to address the failures to protect children from this despicable crime, which we have seen in areas such as Rotherham, Oxford and Rochale. As part of a major report, published on 3 March, we designated child sexual abuse as a national threat within the Strategic Policing Requirement, so that this crime is prioritised by every police force, and announced a new system of multi-agency inspections by Ofsted, Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and the Care Quality Commission, which will begin in 2015/16.

The Government has announced separate devolution agreements with the Combined Authorities in Greater Manchester and Sheffield City Region, which puts them in the driving seat in designing a local skills system that is responsive to labour market needs and economic priorities by 2017. The Combined Authorities will enable the constituent local authorities in the areas to take joint decisions on skills and key growth policies.
The Government will work with the respective Combined Authorities to reshape and restructure their FE systems so they meet their future economic requirements. The Government will devolve the Apprenticeship Grant for Employers (AGE) to the Combined Authorities, and it will work with them on how to improve the ability of the skills system to respond to local labour market needs and economic priorities.

There is a police investigation taking place regarding events at Kings Science Academy. Until such time as those investigations are brought to a close and a full and final determination reached, it would not be appropriate to release any related information held by the Department for Education.
The Department has made a public commitment to release all successful free school applications once all personal information has been removed. Should the investigation conclude by the time the first batch of applications are released in December, the application for the Kings Science Academy in Bradford will be released at that time.
The release of the names of the proposed Chairs of Governors at the proposed schools in Milner Fields and Darnall might contravene the data protection rights of the individuals concerned.

Prior to the creation of Regional Schools Commissioners (RSCs), academy sponsors were approved on a national basis. From 1 September 2014, RSCs have been approving sponsors to operate in their region, on behalf of the Secretary of State. However, approval is not broken down beyond regional level.

A total of 86 people are currently working on British Business Bank programmes, of which 44 work in the Sheffield headquarters. They are employed by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and their employment will transfer to the British Business Bank plc once EU state aid approval has been obtained for that institution, which is expected to happen later this year.
