That this House congratulates the royal couple, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, on their first official visit to India, following in the footsteps of their parents, ahead of Her Majesty The Queen's 90th birthday celebrations; recognises the impetus given by the royal visit to the friendship between India and the UK, symbolising the further strengthening of the relationship between the two nations; and urges the two governments to note the importance of focusing on the partnership with India as a leading member of the Commonwealth nations.

That this House notes the publication by the Bible Society, in conjunction with HOPE and LICC, of the book entitled The Servant Queen to mark the 90th birthday of Her Majesty the Queen who is the longest reigning monarch in UK history; commends the society for such a production which concentrates on the Christian faith that Her Majesty herself alludes to in the foreword; and expresses the hope that she will continue to reign and express her personal faith long into the future.

My hon. Friend will know that tourism is a major employer. Will he take this opportunity of paying tribute to Andrew R. T. Davies, the leader of the Conservatives in the Welsh Assembly, and to Anthony Pickles for coming up with the idea of bringing the Prince of Wales’s regalia to Wales? Will he also praise the Prince of Wales for following up on that idea? What discussions is the Minister having with the Welsh Government to promote this?

I will of course join my hon. Friend in paying tribute to the leader of the Welsh Conservatives. It is important to highlight the importance of tourism to the Welsh economy, and bringing the regalia back to Wales is the right thing to do. I am certain that the castle of Conwy in my constituency would be delighted to host them.

When can we discuss early-day motion 1182?

There are rather large numbers of conspiracy theories in this world. If we spent all our time in this House discussing them, we would not get round to the serious business that faces the nation, so I fear we will not actually be debating that particular issue.

That this House believes that politicisation of the institution of monarchy threatens that institution's future; recalls that the present monarch remained politically neutral for 62 years until an intervention on the Scottish Referendum debate that The Guardian reported was crafted and choreographed by Sir Jeremy Heywood, the Cabinet Secretary, and Sir Christopher Geidt, the Queen's Private Secretary; notes that a recent speech by the Prince of Wales was widely interpreted as a plea for the UK to remain in the EU; emphasises that the prime role of the Head of State is to intervene when a Prime Minister acts in her or his own interests to the detriment of the interests of state; and further believes that the Government and the Civil Service should cease employing members of the Royal Family for political purposes.

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales, what progress the Government has made on the return of the Prince of Wales' regalia to Wales.
To ask the Secretary of State for Wales, what progress the Government has made on the return of the Prince of Wales' regalia to Wales.
I fully support the campaign to return His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales' regalia to Wales, in this the 40th Anniversary Year of the Prince’s Trust. There has been a lot of interest in this for a number of years and I welcome the agreement of HM the Queen for the symbolic regalia to be displayed in Llandovery.
Will the Leader of the House arrange for a debate in the new year to discuss the cherished relationship between the United Kingdom and the other 15 realms of which Her Majesty the Queen is head of state? Does he share my concern that the Government of Barbados are intending...

My hon. Friend makes his point with customary eloquence. I would always hope and expect that constitutional change in a Commonwealth country would involve giving its people the opportunity to express a view. I commend my hon. Friend on the work that he does on Commonwealth matters. We derive enormous...

That this House believes that the prime duty of the Head of State is to intervene when Prime Ministers act in their own interests contrary to the interests of the country; and further believes that appointing an excessive number of peers to gain a political advantage would be an abuse that should be blocked by the monarch.

When can we debate whether the practice of commanding one person to kneel before another is demeaning to both, inconsistent with the concept of a modern monarchy and a medieval relic that should have been abandoned centuries ago?

In many respects, I am delighted that the new Labour leader and those who supported him are so dismissive of the traditions of this country. The reason I am delighted is that it means the people of this country who value those traditions, value our monarch and value our history...

That this House affirms its loyalty to Her Majesty the Queen as her glorious reign now stands without equal; expresses its gratitude for the sure and steadfast monarchy this country and all the other Commonwealth realms have enjoyed; remembers Her late father, His Majesty King George VI, and the stalwart service he did the country and Commonwealth during the war, at such cost to His own health; and thanks Her Majesty for faithfully carrying out her duties all the length of Her reign, God save the Queen.

To ask Her Majesty’s Government whether the Crown Estate is the property of the reigning monarch; whether a majority of the income from the Estate is used in the interest of taxpayers; and what is the amount by which taxpayers benefited in the tax year 2014–15.
To ask Her Majesty’s Government whether the Crown Estate is the property of the reigning monarch; whether a majority of the income from the Estate is used in the interest of taxpayers; and what is the amount by which taxpayers benefited in the tax year 2014–15.
The Crown Estate belongs to the reigning monarch 'in right of The Crown', that is, it is owned by the monarch for the duration of their reign, by virtue of their accession to the throne. But it is not the private property of the monarch - it cannot be sold by the monarch, nor do revenues from it belong to the monarch. The revenue surplus from the Estate is paid to the Consolidated fund. For 2014-15, this was £285.1million.
Will my right hon. Friend find time for a debate on Queen Elizabeth II becoming our longest reigning monarch on 9 September, the value of the monarchy, and how we might celebrate these events?

That this House believes that the right of the British taxpayer to know what their money is being spent on should be prioritised over commercial confidentiality or the confidentiality of the Royal Family; further believes that commercial confidentiality should not apply to contracts with for-profit companies to supply public services, such as health services, that are paid for with public money; calls for all such publicly-funded contracts to be automatically placed in the public domain and to be subject to freedom of information legislation; believes that the Supreme Court was correct to order the publication of correspondence between HRH the Prince of Wales and the Government; is extremely concerned at the undemocratic and unaccountable decision by the Government that future correspondence between members of the Royal Family and the Government should be excluded from freedom of information legislation; believes that institutions, including the Royal Family, which are publicly-funded and which exert an influence on Government policy should be publicly accountable; further believes that wealth and power should always be subjected to proper public scrutiny; and calls on the Government to support this principle.
