Over the last year, the Royal Navy has continued to meet all their standing commitments, delivering a strong presence at home and globally in protecting our national interests. These include: Continuous at Sea Deterrent; Fleet Ready Escort; Towed Array Patrol Ship; marine enforcement; mine countermeasures support; Atlantic Patrol Tasking North and South; Gibraltar Squadron; operations East of Suez; contributing to the Joint Expeditionary Force (Maritime) and Standing NATO Response Force; supporting EU and NATO counter-migration operations in the Mediterranean and Aegean Sea.
The Royal Navy will continue to take part in a wide range of national and international exercises and deployments in 2018 to ensure that our forces are ready to undertake a range of activities to meet the challenges of an uncertain world. I am withholding the details of future deployments and exercises as release would, or would be likely to, prejudice the security and safety of our Armed Forces.

The information requested could be provided only at disproportionate cost. The security and stability of the UK has long depended on our strong partnerships in the Euro-Atlantic area, including NATO. Indeed, NATO remains the cornerstone of UK defence. Our European neighbours represent some of our closest friends and NATO allies, and our defence engagement with them reflects this as routine business. We exercise with them regularly to bolster our interoperability. For example, the Defence Secretary was in Tallinn last week for the opening ceremony of Estonia's NATO enhanced Forward Presence deployment, for which UK is framework nation.

The UK and NATO constantly monitor the threats to the Euro-Atlantic security environment. The Enhanced Forward Presence (EFP) we have deployed to the Baltic States and Poland is defensive in nature, but combat capable, and we will configure our forces appropriately in response to the challenges NATO faces in the region. The effectiveness of UK involvement in this operation is founded upon our longstanding engagement and interoperability with NATO, our host nations of Estonia and Poland, our EFP partners, the US, Denmark, and France. Any attempts to undermine this deployment through disinformation will be countered in an open, honest, and transparent fashion.

The INF Treaty plays a vital role in maintaining Euro-Atlantic security, and we urge Russia to ensure full and verifiable compliance.

The new service for enabling communication between Service personnel on operations and their families and friends is being introduced on 1 April 2017. Printed messages will still be provided to deployed personnel and any savings made will be reinvested into the improvement and development of the welfare services available to deployed personnel, such as increased Wi-Fi capabilities.

Three are based in the Defence Section in the British Embassy in Cairo delivering UK Defence Engagement with Egypt, and two are deployed with the Multinational Force and Observers peacekeeping organisation in the Sinai, which exists to monitor the terms of the 1979 Treaty of the Peace between Egypt and Israel and continues to make an important contribution to peace and stability in the Sinai.
