Over the last six months Department for International Trade, Ministers and senior officials have visited Singapore and Malaysia to discuss and reaffirm our strong bilateral economic and trade relationships, including a refresh of our Economic and Business Partnership with Singapore and promoting trade and investment opportunities with both countries. Singapore, Malaysia and the wider SE Asia region offer substantial opportunities to UK companies. The Department has identified high value opportunities in aerospace, defence and security, transport infrastructure (particularly rail), education and technology sectors, with strong demand for financial and business services. Officials will continue to evaluate opportunities in healthcare, renewables and other sectors as they emerge.

he Home Office Stateless policy is designed to assist those who do not qualify for protection but are unable to return to the country of their former habitual residence because they are stateless and would not be admitted to any other country. The requirements are set out in the Immigration Rules and reflect our obligations under the 1954 UN Convention relating to the status of stateless persons.
The Immigration Minister released information on stateless applications and decisions made on 30 November 2016 in response to three Parliamentary Questions from the hon. Member for Sheffield Central, UINs 50073, 50074 and 50075.
Additionally, the Home Office regularly shares information with UNHCR, relating to stateless applications and decisions made. The information provided is published by UNHCR, in regular trend reports. Money laundering investigations are conducted by law enforcement agencies with access to the powers in the Proceeds of Crime Act, such as the National Crime Agency, the Serious Fraud Office, and the police. All of these law enforcement agencies are operationally independent of the Government.

I understand Maria Chin Abdullah has now been released following her detention under the Special Offences (Security Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA). This is a positive development. We have a regular dialogue with Malaysian ministers on human rights, including the use of SOSMA and the right to peaceful protest. Officials from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London also meet periodically with representatives of Malaysian Civil Society to hear their concerns. We shall continue to follow these issues and wider civil society in Malaysia very closely.
