To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, when he plans to publish the Government's response to the consultation on moving the operations of the HM Land Registry to the private sector.
To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, when he plans to publish the Government's response to the consultation on moving the operations of the HM Land Registry to the private sector.
As announced in the 2016 Autumn Statement, the Government has decided to transform HM Land Registry in the public sector and is reviewing options for modernisation. Government will respond in due course.
To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, how much the Government and the UK Green Investment Bank have spent on external consultants and advisers to date in relation to the privatisation of that bank.
To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, how much the Government and the UK Green Investment Bank have spent on external consultants and advisers to date in relation to the privatisation of that bank.
As with any asset sale, Government has engaged external advisors through a competitive process to provide us with access to additional expertise, in line with NAO recommendations on best practice.
The details of the Green Investment Bank transaction are commercially confidential.
The outsourcing of public services frequently results in lower levels of staffing, less continuity, less training and less vetting. Given that the MOD Guard Service was set up in the wake of the 1989 bombing of the Royal Marines building at Deal, when 11 marines died, and that failures by a private security firm were identified, will the Government recognise the sensitivity of the work done by the MOD guards and abandon plans to privatise the service?

Let me make it clear to the hon. Lady that we are currently considering the options for the future provision of an effective unarmed guarding service throughout the United Kingdom, which, at the moment, is being provided by a multiplicity of different services. The aim is to achieve maximum value for
money to ensure that we can focus resources on military capability, but security remains a priority, and no decisions will be made that would compromise the security of our personnel, our information or our physical assets.

I beg to move,
That this House has considered regulation of the sale of student loans.
It is a pleasure to serve under your chairmanship, Mr Hollobone. I think this is the first time I have been involved in a debate when you have been in the Chair. On your past record,...

My hon. Friend knows that like him, I represent two universities. He is a powerful advocate for universities and students, and he will know that students are worried about the impact on their repayments. The Government have given assurances that the repayment terms will not be affected, but there is...

I agree with my hon. Friend. Frankly, retrospective law is always bad law. The three previous sales were of mortgage-style student loans. There have been no sales of income-contingent loans. In 2013, the Government announced that the final sale of outstanding loans had been made to Erudio Student Loans for...

My hon. Friend knows of my interest in this issue. I have only one university in my constituency, the University of Huddersfield. My students, too, fear that the sale is an ideological fix. We heard this morning in Justice questions that the Government are selling off a young offenders prison—it...

I totally agree with my hon. Friend. It is about time we stopped social engineering with education. We are getting to a point where we want some sort of commission established. I hope the Minister will announce that when he responds to the debate.
Will the personal details of students be...

I have the University of West London in my constituency. I do not have as many universities as my hon. Friend, but has he received emails, as I have, from students who are concerned that the indecent haste to sell off the family silver will mean that students who thought...

My hon. Friend has put her finger on it. The Government are clearly taking an ideological approach, rather than a logical approach.
Can the Minister tell us whether there will be protection from adverse terms and conditions? In the future, we may find ourselves in a situation where the terms and...
