Future customs arrangements will depend on the outcome of negotiations. The Government hopes for and expects a mutually beneficial outcome. The Government is working hard to ensure that all businesses, including ports and seafarers on the Solent, have the necessary support and guidance in place to be ready for future customs arrangements. To this end, the Government is engaging with businesses in every sector and region of the UK economy to assess the effect of EU Exit on them.
The Government published Future Customs Arrangements: A Future Partnership Paper and the Customs Bill White Paper in 2017, which contain information to help businesses consider what plans they need to make.

This report has been
available to Members of both Houses to read in a secure Reading Room. The UK will remain a great maritime nation.

The body of water defined as The Solent is neither classified as an estuary nor as open-water. The Solent is a strait that separates the Isle of Wight from mainland England. For the purposes of safe navigation and equipment requirements for ships, the Solent is classified as Category D waters, defined as ‘tidal rivers and estuaries where the significant wave height could not be expected to exceed 2.0 metres at any time’.

The Government is working with BAE Systems, Local Authorities, the Local Enterprise Partnership, and Talent Retention Solutions (TRS) to ensure that we retain vital engineering and manufacturing skills in the UK.
