Responsibility for the Bridge Street underpass was transferred to Parliament in May 2019. This followed its temporary closure to the public for health and safety reasons, in order to allow work to take place on the Elizabeth Tower renovation project.
Members were advised of the changes to the management of the area via an email from the House of Commons Communications Team (part of a wider "Pre-Recess update for Members" message) on 22 May 2019. A news item was added to the intranet on the same day. A further update was added on 8 August 2019.

Our Embassy in Tel Aviv discussed our concerns about the increase in demolitions in East Jerusalem with the Israeli Authorities on 25 June. The nature of these demolitions which took place within an area of the West Bank controlled by the Palestinian Authority is particularly concerning and we continue to monitor the situation closely. We regularly make clear our serious concerns about the situation in East Jerusalem to the Israeli authorities, both bilaterally and in co-operation with EU partners. We are strongly opposed to any attempts to change the facts on the ground in the East Jerusalem. The UK continues to regard Israeli settlements as illegal under international law and an obstacle to peace, and we regularly raise our concerns about settlement activity with the Israeli authorities.

We remain deeply concerned by Hamas's attempts to re-arm and rebuild militant infrastructure, including the tunnel network, in Gaza. Such actions undermine efforts to improve the situation in Gaza and harm the prospects for peace. During my visit to Israel at the end of May, I witnessed first-hand the impact of Hamas tunnels and rockets on the Israeli communities close to Gaza.

HS2 Ltd has considered a number of tunnel options in the East Midlands Hub area including those set out in the Working Draft Environmental Statement Alternatives Report. However, tunnel options in this area have not been progressed due to the significant length of the tunnel, significant cost impacts and flood risk. HS2 Ltd will continue to work with the local community to minimise the impact of HS2, including appropriate mitigation where necessary.

The HS2 Phase One Main Civil Contracts were signed in July 2017 and Phase One design development and enabling works are continuing to progress. Notice to Proceed is the formal contractual process which enables each Phase One supplier to move from design and development to construction.
HS2 Ltd has advised the Government that it intends for Notice to Proceed to take place later in 2019 to allow it to finalise costs and plans with its contracted suppliers. Full construction of bridges and tunnels will commence following award of Notice to Proceed. Essential works to prepare the route for this stage are well underway, with over 60 active sites, including major works at Euston, Old Oak Common, Curzon Street and Washwood Heath.
Expenditure on HS2 to date is set out in the Annual Report and Accounts of HS2 Ltd and the Department for Transport. The Government has committed to update Parliament on HS2’s progress at least once a year.
The Phase One Full Business Case, planned for publication later in 2019, will include an updated estimate of cost and schedule and an accompanying assessment of benefits.

We are concerned by the reports of excavations by Israeli settlers in East Jerusalem and the impact it has on Palestinian homes. We condemn the destruction of Palestinian property and have called on the Israeli authorities to cease such activity.

The Department for Transport has not received a report by OTB engineering published in January 2019 regarding the HS2 Phase One route at Wendover.
The July 2017 report into the Wendover mined tunnel proposal was considered by the Department for Transport after copies of the report were provided to the Secretary of State by members of both Houses from July 2017. Department for Transport Ministers communicated their assessment to those members from October 2017 onwards.
It is not appropriate for private correspondence between Ministers and members of either House to be placed in either Library without their consent.
