On 2 October, the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced a value for money audit of all EDI (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion) spending in the Civil Service.
The audit will dovetail with the public sector productivity review, aiming at delivering a leaner, more efficient government. The audit forms part of our drive to improve productivity across the public sector by driving down waste and improving performance.
The findings and actions of the audit will be announced by the Chancellor in the Autumn.

Bonuses paid out as non-cash vouchers is a standard practice across Government. Attracting, retaining and motivating highly skilled individuals is essential for the Civil Service to deliver for the British people. This is why pay must be fair and competitive as well as affordable to the taxpayer. Performance-related bonuses and vouchers are a key part of this.

HM Treasury has an external catering contract provided by the Government Property Agency as part of its standard lease service charge across its sites in London and Darlington, which is shared with other occupants of the buildings. Given this, total costs for catering services cannot be identified as some costs form part of the overall service charges that the department pays for its buildings.

The Government is committed to promoting living standards and fostering inclusive growth across the country. Taken together, support to households to help with higher bills this year and last is worth £94 billion, or £3,300 per household on average – one of the largest household support packages in Europe.
Distributional analysis published at Spring Budget 2023 shows that the typical UK household at any income level will see a net benefit in 2023-24 following government decisions made from Autumn Statement 2022 onwards. Low-income households will receive the largest benefit in cash terms and as a percentage of income from government decisions.
