To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, what assessment his Department has made of the potential merits of the provision of interview questions in advance as a reasonable adjustment for jobseekers with learning disabilities and autism.
DWP recognises that some disabled candidates, including people with learning disabilities and autistic people, may benefit from reasonable adjustments during recruitment and as such promotes practices that support fair and accessible recruitment, including the provision of interview questions in advance, the use of clear language and flexibility in assessment methods where appropriate. DWP's Learning Disabilities Project is also working with employers and specialist organisations to identify barriers to recruitment and develop practical guidance that supports more inclusive employment opportunities for people with learning disabilities.

The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism has been developed with a specific and defined focus on learning disability and autism, and there are no plans to extend its scope to other conditions. Oliver’s Training has been designed as the standardised package to support health and care services registered with the Care Quality Commission to meet the statutory training requirement in the Health and Care Act 2022.
Health and care services are responsible for ensuring that their staff receive appropriate training for their role. As such, there is a range of guidance and training available including on acquired brain injury. Organisations such as Headway, the brain injury association, offer specialist courses designed for neurorehabilitation staff, case managers, social workers, and general practitioners. NHS England also offers various online training modules, primarily through the NHS England e-learning for healthcare platform.

Improving statutory notifications was in scope of the Care Quality Commission’s (CQC) transformation programme undertaken between 2021 and 2023. One of the improvements from the programme was an increase in the range of data fields collected as part of notifications for reporting.
Through recent upgrades, it is now possible for the CQC to aggregate and analyse death notifications, including for a person with a learning disability, or an autistic person.
The CQC’s response to the mentioned Freedom of Information request was given under section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act. The CQC is currently reviewing the response provided to the requester and will contact them directly regarding the information provided to them.

The table attached presents an extract from the Assuring Transformation dataset, which shows the figures the Department uses as the 31 March 2024 baselines to measure progress on reducing the number of adults with a learning disability and autistic people in mental health inpatient care.
As Assuring Transformation is a live data collection system, late reporting will tend to increase the inpatient count when data are refreshed in subsequent months. The inpatient count in the latest month is therefore expected to rise and should be treated as provisional.
That this House celebrates National Supported Internship Day 2026 and recognises the vital role that supported internships play in enabling young people with learning disabilities and autism to access meaningful employment opportunities; notes that supported internships provide structured, high‑quality workplace learning combined with personalised support, helping interns develop confidence, skills and long‑term career prospects; acknowledges the commitment of employers, job coaches, education providers and specialist organisations who work in partnership to deliver life‑changing outcomes; welcomes the progress made in increasing the number of supported internship placements but recognises that more must be done to ensure equitable access in every community; and recognises the need to continue strengthening pathways into employment for young people with additional needs so that every intern has the chance to thrive, contribute and succeed.
