To ask Her Majesty's Government whether they intend to encourage Network Rail to generate the electricity it consumes from standby electricity generators for its signalling instalments from renewable energy sources.
To ask Her Majesty's Government whether they intend to encourage Network Rail to generate the electricity it consumes from standby electricity generators for its signalling instalments from renewable energy sources.
Network Rail is conducting a study to assess the potential for large scale renewable energy generation across its estate. The long-term aim of the project is to see Network Rail generating renewable electricity for both train traction and other uses.
The Department for Transport recently funded a demonstrator project that has connected 100 solar panels to the Wessex route’s traction system, with energy from the panels set to power signalling and lights.
To ask Her Majesty’s Government whether, to provide for future electrification, they intend to immunise the new signalling equipment when the railway line between Nottingham, Newark and Lincoln is re-signalled by 2019.
To ask Her Majesty’s Government whether, to provide for future electrification, they intend to immunise the new signalling equipment when the railway line between Nottingham, Newark and Lincoln is re-signalled by 2019.
The specification of signalling equipment that is placed on the network is for Network Rail to decide. It is not a role for Government. There are no funded plans to electrify this route and the rail industry has not identified electrification of the route as an investment priority.
To ask Her Majesty’s Government whether the Department for Transport has estimated any additional costs resulting from the recent cancellation by London Underground of the plan to re-signal the Circle, District and Metropolitan lines; and whether they consider there are likely to be delays in meeting the December 2018 deadline...

Under devolution the Mayor of London and Transport for London (TfL) are
responsible for London Underground, including delivery of the Tube Upgrade programme and related cost estimates. TfL issued a Press Release on 31 December announcing that the signalling contract for the Circle, District, Hammersmith and City and Metropolitan lines would be re-let, and that the original delivery timetable of 2018 currently remains unchanged.

To ask Her Majesty’s Government, further to the Written Answer by Earl Attlee on 5 April (WA 365), by how much the trial of ERTMS on the Cambrian trial area exceeded the originally estimated cost; and what lessons have been learnt.
