Aside from research spend, one of the core reasons for the budgetary pressures in physics is the ruinous cost of energy under Labour. It is ideology in research spend, and it is ideology in energy policy. In March, the Secretary of State said we need to sort out the problems facing physics funding as soon as possible; it is now July. Has she lobbied the Energy Secretary to stop him driving up the core costs of our critical scientific research institutions?

It is also why this country has had more venture capital funding in our AI start-ups just this year than the whole of the rest of Europe. We are driving forward change to ensure that this country can succeed.

The UK‑Germany Strategic Science and Technology Partnership is designed to strengthen bilateral collaboration on key technologies, providing opportunities for researchers and businesses in the UK, including those based in Northern Ireland, to benefit from leading cutting-edge research and development with German partners. All relevant UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) initiatives, such as the lead agency agreement between the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and the German Research Foundation, are open to applicants from across the whole of the UK.

Where an offender’s age is in doubt in criminal proceedings, the court must determine age on the basis of the available evidence. In practice, this may include an adjournment so that an age assessment can be carried out.
Where documentary evidence is not available to determine age, guidance as to the assessments to be conducted can be found in the case of R (on the application of B) v Merton LBC [2003] EWHC 1689 (admin). The Crown Prosecution Service provides guidance on Merton-compliant age assessments https://www.cps.gov.uk/prosecution-guidance/children-suspects-and-defendants#_child7. A Merton assessment is a holistic assessment that considers all available evidence and is not based on physical appearance alone.
