To ask His Majesty's Government whether they will use the powers available to them under section 1 of the Environment Act 2021 to set targets for adaption and resilience to climate change; and if not, why not.
The primary statutory framework for climate adaptation and resilience is the Climate Change Act 2008. Through this, the Government produces regular Climate Change Risk Assessments and the National Adaptation Programme. This Government is committed to strengthening adaptation objectives to improve preparedness for climate impacts and will launch an ambitious fourth National Adaptation Programme in 2028, which will deliver more integrated and effective resilience planning.
Alongside the National Adaptation Programme, action towards delivering existing environmental targets under the Environment Act will support climate resilience by improving the condition of the natural environment, with a clear plan set out in the Environmental Improvement Plan.

The Mayor of London and Transport for London are responsible for the management of air quality on the London Underground. However, the Government remains committed to improving air quality to deliver benefits for public health, the environment, and the economy. We are committed to cleaning up our air and protecting the public from the harms of pollution by tackling air pollution across the transport network. There are currently no plans to introduce additional regulatory or statutory requirements on major public transport hubs.

To ask His Majesty's Government what assessment they have made of the potential to use powers in the Environment Act 2021 to designate fipronil and imidacloprid as priority substances and to require environmental quality standards in relation to those substances.
Environmental quality standards are fundamental to the effective assessment and regulation of chemical impacts. This commitment has already been made in the roadmap produced by the cross-Governmental Pharmaceuticals in the Environment group.
The Government has set out its new vision for water through a White Paper published on 20 January 2026. The White Paper sets out once in a generation reforms that will transform the water system for good. It sets out how we will deliver on our promise to clean up our rivers, lakes and seas – not just for today, but for generations to come. We have committed to explore setting new ambitious overarching targets for the water environment. In the meantime, we continue to work towards our obligation to secure continuous improvement for the water environment.

The Land Use Framework shows we have enough land to achieve our priorities if we make better decisions about how we use it. We can restore nature and meet our housing and clean energy targets.

The UK recognises the urgency of taking action to ensure that UK consumption of forest risk commodities is not driving deforestation.
The Government is carefully considering the best regulatory approach to address deforestation in UK supply chains; we will set out this approach in due course. We need to balance a range of factors, including the broader policy landscape and relevant international frameworks.

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, what steps she is taking to assess the potential impact of the recommendations from the Nuclear Regulatory Review on nature recovery targets set under the Environment Act.
The Government is carefully considering all recommendations of the Nuclear Taskforce’s report and will present a full implementation plan by the end of February. Defra is working with DESNZ and other Government departments to set out this plan. The Taskforce recommendations on the environment seek to deliver better environmental outcomes compared with the existing regime, through a simpler regime which is less burdensome and disruptive for nuclear projects. We are considering these recommendations in line with our objectives to achieve win-wins for nature and growth, as well as meeting our international obligations.
