To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, what assessment she has made of the potential impact of trifluoroacetic acid in water supplies on public health in North East Hertfordshire.
The Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) is carrying out a research project on concentrations of trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) in water supplies in England and Wales and will seek advice from UKHSA where a risk of occurrence to water supplies is identified to understand potential risk to health, including reproductive health and fertility.
In February 2026, the Government unveiled a plan to better protect the nation and environment from PFAS, including TFA. The Environment Agency is working with water companies to reduce TFA and protect drinking water quality. The Government's priority is ensuring that all companies, regardless of ownership model, deliver better environmental performance and service for customers.

In our era of perma-meta-poly crisis, the decisions the Chancellor has taken to provide our country with a little breathing space will be welcome to many of my constituents. The longer-term question that remains is what we mean by good growth, because, looking back over the last two decades, it...

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, pursuant to the answer of 1 July 2026 to UIN 12963, what steps she is taking to legislate regarding the use of snares in England.
To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, pursuant to the answer of 1 July 2026 to UIN 12963, what steps she is taking to legislate regarding the use of snares in England.
This Government has a commitment to bring an end to the use of snare traps in England, as stated in the response given on 1 July 2026 to PQ UIN 12963. This was reaffirmed in this Government’s Animal Welfare Strategy, published in December 2025. Such a change will require primary legislation, and Defra is actively looking to bring a ban on snares into force as swiftly as possible.
I suspect I am doing neither the right hon. Lady nor myself any favours by saying I absolutely agree with her. It is our duty as MPs to robustly defend local democracy. Does she agree that, when the communities we represent and their directly elected councillors oppose speculative development, the...

That this House condemns the arrest on 21 October by Israeli forces of approximately 80 volunteers accompanying Palestinian farmers to obstruct and document settler attacks in the West Bank, nine of whom were British nationals, and the Israeli government’s wider obstruction and deportation of such volunteers; notes that the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has documented over 1600 instances of settler terrorism leading to casualties or property damage this year; further notes that Israeli forces have systematically failed to arrest the settlers responsible, and armed and funded settler militias; warns that the settler movement’s influence on state policy and infiltration of the security forces is already achieving the movement’s aims of displacing Palestinians and denying them self-determination, and will not be stopped by a change of government alone; and commends the courageous work of those supporting Palestinians against settler violence, including the umbrella ‘Protect the Harvest’ initiative, Standing Together, Rabbis for Human Rights, and British nationals and groups supporting them.

Not at this point; I had better make progress.
Housing is by far and away the most oppressive, anxiety-inducing and life-stunting part of the cost of living crisis in this country. The price of rent or a mortgage leaves millions struggling to make the bills add up at the end of...

I had better make progress; I am sorry.
Perhaps most importantly of all, if we succeed in delivering council housing in every community, we will take one of the most important steps in fighting the atomisation of our society, which brings so many social ills. If today’s children are able to...

I completely agree. We have seen for many years that the market cannot solve this problem. In fact, it speaks to a rotten lack of ambition that the political response to children living in cramped, damp and overcrowded conditions has so often been to demand that we lower our expectations...

I agree; my hon. Friend is absolutely right about the immediate need, which I will come to later.
This is a slightly incongruous point, but I am sure that, like me, every hon. Member in the Chamber visits schools in their constituency often. When I see the potential in pupils such...

That this House welcomes the final report published by the Right to Food UK Commission titled A Roadmap to Delivering Food Security to All by 2035; recognises the Commission’s vital role in exposing the scale and causes of food poverty and hunger in the UK, having collected evidence from policy experts, civil society organisations and those with lived experience of food insecurity; thanks the Commissioners and all who gave evidence to the Commission in Liverpool, Knowsley, Newcastle, Ashington, Cardiff, Aberdare, Glasgow, Belfast, London and beyond; supports the Commission highlighting the unacceptable normalisation of food insecurity and identification of practical, long-term solutions; endorses the Commission’s evidence-based roadmap to develop comprehensive and enforceable Right to Food legislation grounded in the five core demands of universal free school meals, transparency on food costs, an independent regulatory body, funding for community kitchens, and legally guaranteed food security; and urges the Government to adopt the findings of the report and include a Right to Food in the next King’s Speech, as a clear route to ending food poverty and delivering food security to all by 2035.

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, what assessment he has made of the impact of levels of Local Housing Allowance on a) poverty b) homelessness among Universal Credit claimants in North East Hertfordshire.
The Local Housing Allowance (LHA) determines the maximum financial support available for renters in the private rented sector.
The Secretary of State for Work and Pensions reviews LHA rates annually, including poverty impacts and future decisions will be based on government priorities.
The causes of homelessness are multi-faceted and often complex and they interact dynamically. DWP continues to work closely with MHCLG to make sure interactions with homelessness are considered.
Renters receiving housing support who face a shortfall in meeting their rent costs can apply for a Crisis and Resilience Fund Housing Payment from local authorities in England.
