That this House expresses its concern that the House of Lords is having to take on more and more of the work of scrutiny of Bills now that the Government refuses through its guillotining of Bills to give the necessary time to do it in this House; notes that since the Queen's Speech, 32 groups of clauses and amendments have not been debated on the report stage of Bills in this House and in addition, in committee, 45 groups of amendments and 117 clauses and schedules have not been debated; considers that the outcome of the Prevention of Terrorism Bill was a victory for Parliament; and calls on the Government not to seek to reduce the powers of the House of Lords, but instead to give adequate time for debate in this House.

That this House expresses its gratitude for the tireless commitment, hard work and assistance when the House of Commons sits long hours of its attendants, cleaning and maintenance services, clerks and assistants, doorkeepers, police, fire and security services, Hansard reporters, the Vote Office, the Table Office, the Library, office keepers, Press Gallery reporters, the Post Office, the Refreshment Department, the Serjeant at Arms Department, the Speaker's Office and all support staff; recognises the considerable demands placed upon them; and praises such professionalism which is a vital part of the Parliamentary process and without which honourable Members could not operate effectively.

That this House notes the importance the regeneration of Birmingham and the West Midlands of the creation of a new gateway station for central Birmingham; further notes the announcement on 10th March of a lead consultant to take the project forward; commends the regional and national stakeholders for their ambition to develop a 21st century station that will enhance the city's skyline; welcomes the current financial commitment of funding of Birmingham City Council and Advantage West Midlands, amounting to ??100 million each, and the investment in the project to date of Centro, Network Rail and Government agencies and calls upon the Secretary of State to encourage the Regulator to allow Network Rail to fund the balance of this enhancement of the network.

That this House is dismayed that the Government has resumed deportations to Zimbabwe despite increasing intimidation and brutality by ZANU-PF gangs; is alarmed that individuals who escaped with their lives should be reconsigned to threatening circumstances; notes that one such is Edneth Gotora whose husband was beaten to death by ZANU-PF thugs for no more than distributing leaflets, whilst her infant daughter was injured so badly that she died weeks later from injuries sustained during the attack; further notes that the culprits were apprehended but released immediately on bail whereupon they returned and abducted Edneth to a rehabilitation camp where she was raped and brutalised by the `commandant' and his henchmen such that she had to be hospitalised; further notes that, with assistance from an orderly, Edneth escaped and hid herself prior to making her way successfully to England; regrets that Edneth's plea for asylum was refused on the grounds that her husband was now dead and that she is now safe; is aware that a petition of 17,500 signatures is to be presented to the Home Office by the Reverend Sheila Maxey, Moderator of the General Assembly of the United Reform Church; recognises that, while the Government pays lip service to the issues of domestic violence there is violence on a national scale in Zimbabwe, yet Edneth seems destined to be despatched to the same dangerous circumstances from which she escaped; and therefore calls upon the Home Secretary to exercise his discretion under the law to grant this much wronged lady the shelter she so desperately needs.

That this House expresses its deep concern at the continuing crisis in care for the elderly and in particular those who suffer from Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia; notes that the Government's current definition of nursing care fails to include nursing care that is provided by trained care staff specialised in providing nursing care to dementia sufferers; is concerned that the Government has drawn the definition of nursing care particularly tightly, thereby excluding many aspects of care; is further concerned at the considerable uncertainty and fear that is currently being generated amongst those who care for Alzheimer's sufferers due to the possible withdrawal of drugs in respect of which there is no alternative medication; and urges the National Institute for Clinical Excellence fully to reflect the evidence of clinical benefit for users and carers in determining a final recommendation on drug therapies for Alzheimer's.

That this House congratulates Cardiac Risk in the Young on their 10th anniversary this year; notes that their first CRY Raising Awareness Week is being held on 11th to 18th June; applauds its successful lobbying campaign for the Cardiac Risk in the Young (Screening) Bill, which instigated the new chapter on Arrhythmias and Sudden Cardiac Death in the National Service Framework to be published on 4th March; supports their National Postcard Campaign highlighting eight young (under 35) sudden cardiac deaths a week; and recognises their achievements in setting up screening clinics at the CRY Centre for Sports Cardiology at the Olympic Medical Institute and at Leeds, Colchester and Northwick Park, the donation of over ??400,000 of cardiac equipment to general practitioner surgeries and hospitals, the development of a national network of 21 trained bereavement supporters to help bereaved families cope with their tragedies and their Surgery Supporters Club for young people who have been diagnosed with a life-threatening cardiac condition.
