That this House notes that the Knesset is currently considering a bill to ban the commercial fur trade; further notes that there would be an exclusion in this ban for fur used for religious purposes; further notes that a recent poll in Israel showed that 79 per cent. of people in that country support the ban; further notes that, while fur factory farming and the use of steel-jawed leghold traps are banned in the UK, furs produced using these cruel methods are still on sale here; and calls on the Government to take note of this proposed legislation and to bring in a ban on the fur trade in the UK as soon as possible.

Member for Stevenage, for their wholehearted support for the Sustainable Communities Act 2007 (Amendment) Bill; notes that the Bill had the support of the Official Opposition and the Liberal Democrats; hopes that the Bill will pass through this House in this Session; and therefore calls on the Government to ensure that the Bill is brought before this House before the end of this Parliament and, if necessary, included in negotiations over wash-up arrangements.

That this House congratulates the British Association for Adoption and Fostering (BAAF) on its excellent campaign Somebody Else's Child, running from 22 February 2010, to draw attention to private fostering, the arrangement where a child who is under 16 (or under 18 if with a disability) lives with someone who is not a close relative (i.e. not a step-parent or grandparent, aunt, uncle, older brother or sister) for more than 28 days; notes the legal requirement for private fostering arrangements to be notified to the local authority where a child is living; commends the efforts by national and local government and the BAAF to increase understanding and awareness of private fostering and the importance of notification; recognises that children living in private fostering have a broad range of individual circumstances, from parents working away, parents suffering ill-health or young people who have had arguments at home or other family difficulties, and that these circumstances also include some children trafficked into the UK or within the UK for the purposes of domestic slavery or prostitution; and calls on local safeguarding children boards to continue to highlight private fostering as an important safeguarding issue.

That this House applauds the essential contribution UK libraries and library staff have made to the social, cultural and economic well-being of the country's communities for the past 150 years; notes that more people in the UK visit libraries than football matches or cinemas; acknowledges that despite increased investment in the library service over the past decade, more needs to be done to keep libraries central to their communities; welcomes the launch of UNISON's Love Your Libraries - The People's Inquiry into the Public Library Service in the UK, which will assess the major contribution made by those working in the library service and library users and make recommendations on how to safeguard investment in the future of the library service; and calls on the Government to include the findings of the inquiry in its current review of the library service.
