To ask His Majesty's Government, in relation to cases of Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood, what steps they are taking to ensure that (1) lessons are learned from such child deaths, (2) opportunities to prevent future deaths are identified, and (3) bereaved families are appropriately supported.
To ask His Majesty's Government, in relation to cases of Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood, what steps they are taking to ensure that (1) lessons are learned from such child deaths, (2) opportunities to prevent future deaths are identified, and (3) bereaved families are appropriately supported.
We recognise the devastating impact of sudden unexplained death in childhood on affected families and communities.
The Child Death Review (CDR) process was established in 2008 so that the deaths of all children would be systemically reviewed to identify learning and support bereaved families. A Child Death Overview Panel examines the circumstances of each death, identifies learning, looks for patterns and potential improvements in services, and makes recommendations aimed at preventing future deaths. Families are assigned a key worker to guide them through the CDR process and help them access appropriate support and services.
The Department is working to update the statutory CDR guidance in due course.

To ask His Majesty's Government what plans they have to represent Scottish onshore wind within the Strategic Spatial Energy Plan.
The UK, Scottish and Welsh Governments jointly commissioned NESO to produce the first Strategic Spatial Energy Plan for Great Britain. It will identify potential zonal locations; types of generation and storage needed for a secure and affordable energy system.
Scottish onshore wind will be considered alongside other eligible technologies, accounting for technical, economic, environmental and societal factors.

There is no easy fix here, but does the Minister agree that the Government need to take a more fundamental look at the electricity market, whether that involves market reform or system design, because prioritising cheap as well as clean electricity is fundamental to the future of industry and growth in the UK?

We have set out in our Clean Power 2030 Action Plan a road to energy security, and to the clean power the country needs, to provide clean energy for the future as well as securing our energy independence. We have seen the importance of that in recent months. We have also taken steps to cut energy costs for industry, particularly in areas of the industrial strategy that are especially energy-intensive.

The paediatric and perinatal pathology workforce report highlights the extent of the workforce crisis in paediatric and perinatal pathology and the impact this can have on turnaround times and families.
NHS England has launched a national programme to strengthen perinatal and paediatric pathology services and to improve service capacity and resilience.
A £20,000 recruitment incentive for new trainees has been introduced, a fully funded international recruitment campaign has launched, and a new National Training Programme Director has been appointed.
Further initiatives are underway to review the training pathway, develop advanced practitioner roles, and implement a retention strategy for existing staff.

As the Minister for Public Health and Prevention (Sharon Hodgson MP) set out during a recent Westminster Hall Debate on this issue on 24 March 2026, the Government’s is committed to strengthening pathology services, ensuring high-quality bereavement support and growing the evidence base around SUDC.
Parents who have lost a child to SUDC should be able to access the advice and support that they need. Bereavement support is available on the NHS help page and GOV.UK website in an online-only format.
NHS Bereavement support is commissioned locally, allowing services to be shaped around the needs of local communities. For anyone seeking help after a bereavement, we encourage them to speak to their general practitioner, who can advise on and refer into local bereavement support services. My officials are exploring opportunities to include signposting on the NHS website to SUDC UK to ensure families have access to information when they need it most.
