Decisions on local recruitment and employment are a matter for individual National Health Service trusts, to ensure they have the right number of staff in place, with the right skill mix, to deliver safe and effective care, and the specific information requested by the Hon Member is not centrally collated by the Department.
However, on the broader point he raises, we know that student paramedics work incredibly hard to gain the skills needed to save lives and we want those who qualify to be able to care for patients as soon as possible.
This year has seen record numbers of ambulance staff in the NHS, including paramedics, and our upcoming 10 Year Workforce Plan will help ensure the NHS has the right staff, in the right places, to deliver the care that patients need.
I thank the Secretary of State for her statement and welcome her to her role. She is such a powerful advocate and leader when it comes to our students and brilliant teachers in Burnley, Padiham and Brierfield. Does she agree that we should not be complacent with the PISA results...

Unitary authorities have big benefits, but I am angry about the proposals. According to our own statistics, the new East Lancs authority—with Blackburn, and without the Ribble Valley—will create the most deprived unitary authority in the country, with an awful lot of debt already on its books. We are going...

I thank the Minister for her listening ear throughout this process. I know that she will make a bigger statement on Thursday, but while she is giving these matters consideration, may I make a last-ditch attempt to convince her to keep Burnley and Blackburn very separate? Will she prioritise devolution...

Summer jobs are really important, as are summer schools. Will the Minister join me in welcoming students from the Burnley summer school, who join us in the Gallery today, and will he perhaps include in his speech the fact that over the Tories’ time in power from 2010 to 2024,...

To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, with reference to the Civil Justice Council’s review of litigation funding to strengthen protections for consumers, whether she plans to extend Financial Conduct Authority regulation to cover portfolio-based litigation funding.
To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, with reference to the Civil Justice Council’s review of litigation funding to strengthen protections for consumers, whether she plans to extend Financial Conduct Authority regulation to cover portfolio-based litigation funding.
The Government welcomes the Civil Justice Council’s (CJC) review and is carefully considering all its recommendations.
As announced on 17 December 2025, the Government’s priority is to implement the CJC’s two primary recommendations: to clarify that Litigation Funding Agreements (LFAs) are not Damages-Based Agreements, and to introduce light-touch regulation of LFAs. Once this work has been completed, we will consider the CJC’s remaining recommendations, including those relating to portfolio funding, in more detail. We will provide further information in due course.
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, what representations her Department has made to the Government of Pakistan regarding the trial of civilians in military courts since February 2024.
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, what representations her Department has made to the Government of Pakistan regarding the trial of civilians in military courts since February 2024.
The UK is concerned by the use of military courts for civilians in Pakistan. We regularly raise our concerns with the Government of Pakistan and urge it to uphold its international obligations, including the right to a fair trial and due process. We continue to engage bilaterally and at senior levels to encourage legal proceedings to be conducted in line with international standards, including under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what information she holds on the involvement of Pakistani state actors in the surveillance, intimidation and physical harassment of Pakistani diaspora members residing in the UK.
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what information she holds on the involvement of Pakistani state actors in the surveillance, intimidation and physical harassment of Pakistani diaspora members residing in the UK.
The first duty of Government is to keep our country safe. Any attempt by a foreign state to intimidate, harass or harm individuals in the UK will never be tolerated, irrespective of where the threat emanates.
We do not routinely comment on intelligence matters. Wherever a threat is identified, we use all appropriate measures, including through our world‑class police and intelligence services, to mitigate risks to individuals. The Government will also deploy diplomatic measures, both publicly and privately, with perpetrating countries to prevent transnational repression and raise the costs of interference.
Anyone who believes they are a victim of state‑directed activity should report to the police via 101, 999, or at a local station. Allegations of unlawful activity will be handled sensitively, treated seriously, and swiftly investigated in line with UK law.
It is a great pleasure to welcome this King’s Speech after the bumper legislative year we have just had. Acts such as the Renters’ Rights Act 2025 and the Employment Rights Act 2025 are already making a difference to my constituents, and there are more than 5,000 children in my...

I absolutely agree. My hon. Friend is an ardent campaigner for community spaces like the one he mentions, and I am sure he is taking that fight to his local council on behalf of his residents and the users of that facility. I am completely onside with him. I am...

Oliver Ryan (Burnley) (Lab/Co-op):
Thank you, Mr Speaker—and a happy St George’s day for tomorrow too.
In Burnley, Padiham and Brierfield, we have a large number of ex-industrial, derelict land sites crying out for regeneration and redevelopment. They are blighting communities and many are a fire risk. Our area of Britain needs housing—social, affordable, family, aspirational. We have the sites if the Prime Minister has the will, so will he back my campaign for a new regeneration house building programme for Burnley, Padiham and Brierfield, tackling these derelict sites to get us building, growing, and housing local people?

May I start by wishing my hon. Friend a happy birthday? [Hon. Members: “Hear, hear!”]
I will make sure that Ministers meet my hon. Friend to hear more detail about his particular proposal. We are committed to delivering 1.5 million homes this Parliament. We are prioritising the development of brownfield sites, ensuring that the default answer to brownfield proposals is a yes. We will go further and faster now that our Planning and Infrastructure Act 2025 is law, despite being opposed by every Opposition party—a coalition of blockers.
I am worried that, despite this Government’s historic recognition of a Palestinian state, there will never be one if the west bank is annexed further, which Netanyahu knows. Some 56 new illegal west bank settlements were approved by Israel in 2025, and since the Iran war began, 78 violent attacks have occurred in more than 148 west bank Palestinian settlements; people are being killed, thousands are being displaced and families and children are being attacked and threatened. What more can the UK do to pressure, sanction and stop this annexation and violence?

I know of my hon. Friend’s commitment to these issues and of the concern in Burnley. I raised exactly those concerns about the west bank with counterparts from the United States—with high representatives from the board of peace—and most importantly with the Palestinian Prime Minister, who is doing everything he can to ensure that people on the west bank are protected from settlement violence. Settlements have expanded at an historic rate and are a subject of deep controversy both in Israel and in this House. We will continue to raise these issues with the seriousness that they deserve.

This government values PE and sport as a great opportunity to improve not only the health but also the wellbeing and lives of children and young people.
The government has confirmed funding for the School Games Organisers (SGO) network for the 2026/27 financial year. The commitment of further funding recognises the value of the SGO Network’s expertise and support, which will be vital as we move towards delivery of new Physical Education and School Sport Partnerships Network. Further details on the PE and School Sports Partnerships will be confirmed in due course.
