To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, what recent progress her Department has made on its review of the Gambling Act 2005.
The Government is working at pace with the Gambling Commission, industry and others to deliver the white paper.
The Government recently confirmed plans for the introduction of stake limits for online slots games, and last week published our plans for reforms to the land-based sector.
The Gambling Commission have also confirmed proposals for a range of measures, including financial risk checks and strengthened protections on direct marketing.

That this House acknowledges the positive action taken by Midlothian Council Leader Kelly Parry, Provost Debbi McCall and Chief Executive Dr Grace Vickers in endorsing the Jo Cox Civility campaign and signing the pledge on behalf of all Midlothian councillors to run a respectful election campaign; recognises that the pledge actioned by the Jo Cox Foundation was launched in memory of Labour MP Jo Cox who was sadly murdered outside her constituency surgery in Birstall in 2016 because of her political beliefs a week before the EU referendum; further recognises that this campaign is to tackle all forms of abuse and intimidation against elected representatives and to highlight that everyone has the right to express their views without fear of harassment or threat; notes that in 2022, Local Government Association research found that seven out of 10 councillors had experienced abuse in the previous year; and further notes that abuse can make elected representatives feel they need to step down and put potential future candidates off standing altogether, which fully demonstrates the importance of signing the pledge which commits parties and candidates to set a respectful tone when campaigning, promote constructive debate and defend the dignity of others.

That was an interesting answer from the Secretary of State. The Government and the loyal Opposition have both pledged to commit to Trident renewal, investing obscene amounts of money that would be better used to improve our NHS, to help households with the cost of living and to support personnel or, indeed, veterans. According to the House of Commons Library briefing, Trident renewal is expected to cost £21 billion in 2022-23 prices, while one in three children
is currently living in poverty. When will the Secretary of State agree that Trident renewal is an obscene waste of money, which could be put to much better uses?

I was recently at Faslane in Scotland, and I can tell the right hon. Gentleman that that is not what the people employed in the defence sector think about Trident. I can tell him something else: having stood at the Dispatch Box and been Defence Secretary, I know that the defence of this country is vastly supported by having our nuclear deterrent. In my view, every other issue that we face comes after the defence of this realm.
What recent estimate he has made of the cost to the public purse of Trident renewal.

The right hon. Gentleman asks about the Trident programme, but I am unclear about whether he means the Dreadnought submarine part of that. Of course, different parts of a programme often combine together, but the Dreadnoughts themselves will enter service in the early 2030s.
Earlier this week, the Secretary of State for Scotland seemed to outline an intention to disregard democracy and run roughshod over devolution. The dangerous extremists on the SNP Benches believe that democracy is not a one-time event so, as we mark 25 years of the Scottish Parliament, could we have...

Whether his Department provides grants for the provision of training for D1 licences.
Although we do not provide direct funding for drivers to obtain D1 licences, the Department makes available more than £3 million a year through the bus service operators grant to community transport operators in England, which are predominantly charities operating vehicles that require D1 licences. They receive £1.60 for every £1 claimed, reflecting the increased costs faced by the sector, and supporting them to continue delivering inclusive and accessible transport across the country.
I thank the Minister for that answer. In Scotland, as across the rest of the UK, there has been a shortage of minibus drivers, with Brexit and the legacy of covid fuelling a crippling shortage of bus drivers. Passenger-carrying vehicle drivers can pursue careers in various fields, including public transport, tour and travel companies, school transportation and private charter services. What more can the Government do to incentivise such training?

The hon. Gentleman might not be aware of the recent consultation to reduce the age requirement for bus and HGV drivers from 21 to 18, and I encourage him to speak to the Department for Work and Pensions. We are working closely with the relevant Ministers at DWP to have sector-based work academies and skills boot camps, to encourage greater participation by drivers.
