The UK is a strong advocate for freedom of religion or belief (FoRB) for all. We are aware of concerns regarding the treatment of members of the Baha'i community in Qatar. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) continues to engage with the Government of Qatar on a range of issues, including human rights, FoRB and the importance of due process. We also remain in contact with members of the Baha'i community in both the UK and Qatar to understand and monitor their concerns.

We remain deeply concerned by Iran's destabilising activities across the Middle East and the support it receives from other countries that are in violation of the UN arms embargo.
The Government previously announced significant measures against Iran and Russia, following the Iranian regime's transfer of ballistic missiles to Russia for use on the battlefield in Ukraine.
The UK now has over 550 sanctions against Iranian linked individuals and entities, including the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which has been sanctioned in its entirety. Over 240 sanctions have been imposed since July 2024.
What steps he is taking to help ensure that the Israeli Government upholds its obligations under international law.
What steps he is taking to help ensure that the Israeli Government upholds its obligations under international law.
The UK regularly calls on the Government of Israel to comply with its obligations under International Law.
As the Foreign Secretary set out in September, the official view of the Government is that Israel's continued occupation is unlawful, in line with the key finding of the ICJ's July 2024 Advisory Opinion.
Our view is based on the nature and totality of the Government of Israel's actions in Palestine over decades: the length of the occupation, the Government of Israel's entrenchment of its control and its expansionist agenda via illegal settlements.

We cannot allow the Iranian regime to exploit the global economy, threatening vital trade routes and driving up prices for British families.
The Foreign Secretary has pressed his Iranian counterpart directly to end its reckless behaviour and threats to shipping in the Strait.
The Foreign Secretary has spoken on this issue with the US, E3 and Gulf partners, as well as other international counterparts.
I have also engaged partners including Oman, Bahrain, Pakistan, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan and Turkey.
We are all deeply alarmed by the systematic discrimination and exclusion of women and girls from public life, education, employment and decision making in Afghanistan. That is why we are providing £105 million a year to support the Afghan people, and our aid reached 5 million Afghans last year, including...

We engage with a wide range of experts on these issues, and I would certainly welcome a chance to discuss these matters with the academics the hon. Lady references, but I can absolutely assure her that the Department engages with a huge range of civil society and expert organisations. That...

I can confirm that, most recently, the Foreign Secretary raised Mr Johal’s case with his Indian counterpart on 24 September at the UN General Assembly. I will be very clear: we recognise the immense toll that nine years in detention have taken on Mr Johal and his family, and I...

I assure my hon. Friend that the UK’s commitment to international law does not depend on the outcome of elections. We have been clear that settlements are illegal under international law and that Israel must comply with its obligations. We have been clear that the occupation is unlawful.

We have raised the UK’s serious concerns about Iran’s nuclear programme, and that includes the Foreign Secretary raising it directly with Foreign Minister Araghchi. Iran has accumulated over 400 kg of uranium enriched to 60%—a level that goes beyond any credible civilian justification. Iran’s ongoing lack of International Atomic Energy...

As the Foreign Secretary set out in his statement of 8 September, we will ban the advertising of illegal settlements in the UK.

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, what assessment his Department has made of the Palestinian Authority’s implementation of the terms of the UK-Palestinian Strategic Co-operation MOU; and which areas of concern were raised with the Palestinian Authority at the 2026 annual strategic dialogue.
The UK-Palestinian Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed on 28 April 2025, provides a framework for strengthening and deepening the bilateral relationship. Since its signature, the UK and the Palestinian Authority have made progress across a range of shared priorities, including our commitment to advancing a viable two-state solution. The first UK-Palestinian Strategic Dialogue is expected to take place in the first quarter of 2027. In the meantime, we remain in regular contact with the Palestinian Authority, including on issues covered by the MoU.
I recently spoke to the Foreign Minister and Vice-President in this regard.

I refer the Honourable Member to the answer provided in the House of Lords on 2 October in response to Question HL3470, printed here for ease:
"A reformed Palestinian Authority is essential to long-term stability in the region and progressing towards a two-state solution. We welcome the Palestinian Authority's commitment, underlined in the UK-PA Memorandum of Understanding, to reform prisoner payments so that welfare payments are based on needs and not linked to acts of violence. The audit has been completed, and initial reports indicate that the new needs-based system is in place. We await full publication of the audit so that this can be verified. Alongside our partners, the UK will continue to support the Palestinian Authority as it delivers its important reform agenda."

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, what assessment he has made of the security threat posed to British nationals in the West Bank by settlers on illegal settlements.
We are deeply concerned by settler violence and terrorism in the West Bank and keep the security situation under constant review. Our Travel Advice is regularly updated to reflect our latest assessment of the risks to British nationals including in relation to settlement-related activity. We regularly call on the Government of Israel to prevent and hold perpetrators of settler violence accountable.
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, what estimate his Department has made of the number of (a) Palestinian women and (b) Palestinian children detained in Israel.
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, what estimate his Department has made of the number of (a) Palestinian women and (b) Palestinian children detained in Israel.
We do not hold figures on the number of Palestinian women and children detained in Israel. We have been consistently clear that all detainees must be treated with dignity and in full accordance with international law. The UK continues to urge the Government of Israel to allow the International Committee of the Red Cross immediate and unfettered access to all detention facilities and detainees.

I remain concerned by developments in Pakistan-administered Kashmir including reports of loss of life and detentions during recent protests and restrictions on communications. We continue to monitor the situation closely. I discussed the situation in the region with the Government of Pakistan during my visit to Islamabad on 6 October, including with Law, Justice and Human Rights Minister Tarar. We encourage all states to uphold their obligations on human rights, including the rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly and efforts to promote dialogue.
