That this House congratulates the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), formerly known as the National Federation of Self Employed (NFSE) on its 50th birthday; remembers that in 1974, one small business owner, Captain Norman Small, wrote to the press to begin a small business movement; recalls that Small invited small business owners to attend a meeting in his hometown of Lytham St Annes and, at that meeting, he put forward the idea of an organisation designed to promote the voice of the self-employed; further remembers that similar meetings in other parts of the country followed and that within nine months the NFSE had a membership of 25,000 with 200 new members joining every day; acknowledges that 50 years later FSB is the UK’s largest membership organisation for small businesses and the self-employed; and reflects on the range of day-to-day business tools, local support networks, and member-only savings provided today by FSB, and looks forward to the next 50 years of FSB.

That this House notes that bus drivers work nearly six hours more but are paid 20 per cent less per week than the average UK worker; further notes that it is currently legal for local bus drivers to drive up to 130 hours over two weeks; is concerned that long working hours are a health and safety risk; regrets the tragic bus accident in Coventry in 2015 which caused two fatalities, including that of seven-year-old Rowan Fitzgerald, and is concerned that the bus driver involved had worked 72 hours per week on average in the month before the accident; supports the Rowan's Law campaign to limit the working hours for local bus drivers to that of long-distance drivers; welcomes the Transport Select Committee recommendation that the Government consult on whether legislation governing bus drivers' hours is fit for purpose; calls on the Government to respond positively to this and to introduce legislation which ensures that bus drivers work no more than 56 hours per week and 90 hours per fortnight; and further calls on the Government to ensure that bus drivers are legally entitled to a break of at least 45 minutes after no more than 4.5 hours driving and that these changes are all introduced with no detriment to bus drivers' pay.

That this House notes with regret the passing of Lord Kumar Bhattacharyya; recognises the enormous contribution that Lord Bhattacharyya made to the UK manufacturing sector and in particular the automotive sector; notes the critical role Lord Bhattacharyya played in negotiating the sale of Jaguar Land Rover between Ford and TATA and helping assure its subsequent growth; further notes Lord Bhattacharyya' s extraordinary networking skills in bringing inward investment into Coventry and the wider West Midlands region; and acknowledges the leadership that he gave during a long career at the University of Warwick through the establishment of the world-leading Warwick Manufacturing Group and associated businesses.
