Mrs. Gillan: To ask the President of the Board of Trade what response her Department has made to the proposals from the European
Commission on energy taxation in relation to the United Kingdom aluminium industry. [9438]
Mr. Battle: I have received a letter and a position paper from the Aluminium Federation (ALFED) concerning the implications of
energy taxation for the UK aluminium industry. I intend to reply to this correspondence shortly. My officials are aware of the
aluminium industry's concerns and are keeping in close touch with them on developments at EU level through ALFED.

That this House deplores the failure of the English Football Association to provide a place of honour for Sir Alf Ramsey at the start of Euro '96 on 8th June; and reminds the Football Association that Sir Alf is still the most successful of England's managers having led his country to World Cup victory in 1966 and that all English football supporters wish to see Sir Alf lead the remaining members of the 1966 team onto the pitch at the opening match.
