49 of the largest developers have signed a pledge to take responsibility for all necessary work to address life-critical fire-safety defects on buildings 11 metres and over in height that they had a role in developing or refurbishing. Signatories include Taylor Wimpey, Crest Nicholson, Barratt, Bellway, Persimmon and Berkeley.
We will shortly publish a contract that will make the pledge commitments legally binding, and which we will expect developers to sign as soon as possible. The contract will contain provisions enabling us to monitor and audit the progress being made by developers to meet their remediation commitments.

That this House strongly condemns the action of Barratt Homes Limited in retaining ??18,000 in non-refundable deposits from prospective home-buyers at the Chamberlayne Walk development at Preston Road in Brent North without advising them that they themselves had no legally registered title to the land and that this would make it impossible to secure a mortgage on the property, thereby forfeiting the deposit; regards such sharp practice as contrary to the basic principles laid down in Section 110 of the Land Registry Act 1925, and as a scam perpetrated on people who paid deposits in good faith; and urges Barratt Homes to refund the deposits forthwith.
