The AI algorithms in question were developed trilaterally using expertise across all three AUKUS nations. The algorithms are planned to be flown on our P8 aircraft in the future. The UK are currently benefitting from access to data, insights and operational learnings generated through partner deployment of these capabilities. This work forms part of a broader programme to ensure interoperability across all three nations and to maximise the operational benefits of AUKUS-developed technologies as they are brought into service.

The initial contract for the basic integration of the Sting Ray Mod 1 torpedo onto the RAF’s fleet of P-8 Poseidon Maritime Patrol aircraft was awarded to BAES Systems Surface Ships Ltd in December 2024 and work is ongoing to deliver this initial capability. Further phases of integration are anticipated in 2027 but are subject to investment decisions.

This allocation refers to a two-year contract extension awarded to Boeing Defence UK to provide training and support services to the RAF’s Poseidon P-8 fleet.
This will run to March 2028 and covers aircraft support, maintenance, supply chain management, and training for the Poseidon fleet based at RAF Lossiemouth in Moray.
