That this House notes the important public service rendered by the honourable Member for The Wrekin in helping to expose the scandal of Michael Ashcroft's role in the Conservative Party; notes that the Leader of the Conservative Party appears powerless to act against Mr Ashcroft because of his stranglehold on the Party; deplores the dirty tricks which the Conservatives are now using against the honourable Member for The Wrekin; notes in particular that allegations which they are making now were made first four years ago by the Conservatives on Westminster City Council and were found to be groundless by the Council Chief Executive who wrote to the honourable Member 'there is no evidence that you had an interest that you were obliged to declare';notes further that while the honourable Member for East Worthing and Shoreham alleged during Prime Minister's questions on 21st July, Official Report, column 1187, that the honourable Member for The Wrekin 'voted against a planning application by Waitrose in preference to one by Safeway', neither company had made any such application and therefore no vote took place; and calls on the promoters of EDM No. 871 to withdraw it and apologise to the honourable Member for The Wrekin.

That this House notes that the honourable Member for The Wrekin, when a member of Westminster City Council's Planning Committee and while simultaneously acting as a consultant for the Safeway supermarket chain, objected to a planning brief by the Waitrose supermarket chain to build a supermarket, and that Safeway owned a supermarket near to the site; also notes the failure of the honourable Member for The Wrekin to declare his interests in Safeway during the course of that planning application; further notes the honourable Member for The Wrekin's comments on Lord Neill, when he was acting for Dame Shirley Porter, 'He may think that conflicts of interest do not arise; that is not how the rest of the world see it. It is crucial that he is not only above reproach but is seen to be above reproach'; and believes that the honourable Member for The Wrekin should heed his own words and look to his own record in public life before making unfounded allegations about the business affairs of a private individual, under the cloak of Parliamentary privilege.

That this House expresses its concern that the Right honourable Member for City of London and Westminster South has declined to reply to a letter from his constituent, Mr Peter Bradley, dated 7th June 1995, despite two further letters asking the Right honourable Member for a reply; notes that Mr Bradley's letter raised important issues regarding the Right honourable Member's support for Westminster Conservative councillors campaign to discredit the Audit Commission and the District Auditor, who had provisionally found that Westminster Conservatives have misused ??30 million on gerrymandering policies; and calls on the Right honourable Member to clarify his position.
