To ask the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, whether he has held discussions with representatives from the (a) Football Association (FA) and (b) Premier League on using the FA's facilities at St Georges Park in Burton constituency to complete the Premier League season.
To ask the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, whether he has held discussions with representatives from the (a) Football Association (FA) and (b) Premier League on using the FA's facilities at St Georges Park in Burton constituency to complete the Premier League season.
The Government has been liaising closely with the football authorities as their plans to restart the season have developed, however, there have been no discussions with them about confirmed plans for using the facilities at St George’s Park.
Football and local authorities will continue discussions on the most appropriate venue for each remaining fixture.
Some 900 jobs were put at risk when Kerry Foods announced the closure of its plant in Burton. I know the Secretary of State has been in touch with the managing director of Kerry to press it on finding a new buyer. Will he commit to doing all he can to make sure that a new buyer is found and that those jobs are protected?

I will indeed. I have been in touch with the owners of the site. My hon. Friend is absolutely right: the most important thing is that a new owner should be found for that historic site in Burton, so that it can continue its good track record of employment.

On Monday 160 years of food production on the same site in Burton ended with the announcement of the closure of the Kerry Foods plant in my constituency, affecting 900 jobs in Burton and the constituency of my hon. Friend the Member for South Derbyshire (Mrs Wheeler). The Prime Minister will obviously have great sympathy for all those workers who are concerned about their future—concerned about paying their mortgages and for the holidays they have booked and their families. Will she commit to a cross-departmental taskforce to try to ensure we not only get those 900 people back into work but find a new use for that plant in Burton?

As my hon. Friend says, I am sure this is going to be a very worrying time for the employees of Kerry Foods and their families. I understand that Ministers from the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy are speaking to my hon. Friend to discuss the situation and that they will work with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government to explore the various options. We will also want to work closely with businesses and local partners to ensure those affected are well supported and indeed to explore options for the future of the site. Our thoughts are with those who will obviously be very concerned at this time.

Further to that point of order, Mr Speaker. As the MP for the neighbouring constituency to Burton in South Derbyshire and as an HCLG Minister, I very much look forward to having further conversations with my hon. Friend the Member for Burton (Andrew Griffiths) about this issue, which is very...

On a point of order, Mr Speaker. Kerry Foods made the sad announcement at 5 o’clock yesterday that it intended to close its production factory in Burton, leading to the loss of between 690 and 900 jobs. That is a clear blow to my constituency and the people employed there,...

To ask Her Majesty’s Government what is the national average weekly income in Burton for (1) men, and (2) women.[HL6450]
The information requested falls within the responsibility of the UK Statistics Authority. I have asked the Authority to reply.
Letter from Caron Walker, Director, Collection and Production, ONS, Baroness Thornton, dated April 2014.
On behalf of the Director General for the Office for National Statistics, I have been asked to reply to your recent Parliamentary Question asking Her Majesty’s Government what is the national average weekly income in Burton for (1) men, and (2) women. (HL6450).
The Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings (ASHE), carried out in April each year, is the most comprehensive source of earnings information in the United Kingdom. Weekly levels of earnings are estimated from ASHE, and are provided for employees on adult rates of pay, whose earnings for the survey pay period were not affected by absence. Figures relate to employee jobs, which are defined as those held by employees and not the self-employed. Additional sources of income such as benefit payments, rental income and pensions are not covered in ASHE.
I attach a table showing estimates of median gross weekly earnings for male and female employees in Burton constituency in April 2013, the latest period for which results are available. Figures are provided separately for full-time employees and all employees.

Notes:
a. Employee jobs are defined as those held by employees and not the self- employed. Figures relate to employees on adult rates whose pay for the survey pay-period was not affected by absence. ASHE is based on a 1 per cent sample of jobs taken from HM Revenue and Customs' Pay As You Earn (PAYE) records. Consequently, individuals with more than one job may appear in the sample more than once.
Guide to quality:
The coefficient of variation (CV) indicates the quality of a figure; the smaller the CV value, the higher the quality.
The true value is likely to lie within +/- twice the CV - for example, for an average of 200 with a CV of 5%, we would expect the population average to be within the range 180 to 220.

Adjournment debate on the proposed closure of the inpatient mental health unit in Burton.
Adjournment debate on the proposed closure of the inpatient mental health unit in Burton.
I congratulate the hon. Gentleman on bringing this matter to the Chamber. Has any consideration been given in his investigations to the impact on the families of those who would be in those beds, but who suddenly do not have them and will now be at home? What will happen...

I thank you, Mr Speaker, for allowing this important debate today. Although this issue may not be big news nationally, it is incredibly important for the people of Burton and east Staffordshire. If we want to make Parliament more relevant and debate the issues that matter to people, debates such...

My hon. Friend makes an incredibly important point. He has been vociferous in campaigning on behalf of his local residents—as I am attempting to do—and I share his concerns. None of us is a backwoodsman, and none of us wants to ignore the facts, but the facts that are being...

I thank the Minister for speaking so well about our concerns, but we have little faith in the PCT and the way in which it has conducted itself in this consultation. A rumour is gathering pace in my constituency and locally that the PCT is now going to extend the...

I will certainly give some further consideration to that. I am not sure that I am in a position to give my hon. Friend the undertaking he wants tonight, but if new issues arise it is in the public interest to make sure they are properly understood. My hon. Friend...

I am very satisfied with the Minister's offer, but may I suggest that the Audit Commission—the only organisation that seems to produce reliable figures—has a chance to look at what we have discovered in our trusts? As I have said, the figures that are given to us are not reliable...
