To ask His Majesty's Government what assessment they have made of the impact on English students from under-represented backgrounds of the planned closure by Cardiff University of its School of Music.
This government believes that access to higher education should be based on ability and attainment, not background.
As education is a devolved matter, impacts following the closure of provision at a Welsh university are a matter for the Welsh government.

The Home Office regularly engages with representatives from the education sector, including the Department for Education. This has included recent discussions on Tier 4 services during the AutumnOperationally we are currently deciding Tier 4 visa applications within published service standards.

Both contracts with NESTA and Cardiff University are monitored through the following mechanisms:
- A joint weekly meeting to review progress, deliverables, risks and budgets as well as agreeing priorities for the week ahead. The Department for Education’s (DfE) What Works Centre (WWC) management team lead the meeting.
- A joint monthly contract and finance review against key performance indicators. DfE WWC management team lead this meeting.
- A WWC steering group comprising the Chief Social Worker and senior DfE officials, (and by invitation, sector experts, where applicable to the issues arising) meets monthly.
- Key decisions are presented to a strategy board comprising senior DfE officials and chaired by Indra Morris, Director General for Social Care, Mobility and Equalities.

DECC has not provided any funding to Cardiff university for its research and promotional activities on the Severn barrage. Neither are we aware of any public funds made to the university for such purposes since October 2010.
