To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, if he will make an assessment of the potential merits of establishing a memorial to commemorate Force 135 and all those involved in the liberation of the Channel Islands during World War Two at the National Arboretum.
To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, if he will make an assessment of the potential merits of establishing a memorial to commemorate Force 135 and all those involved in the liberation of the Channel Islands during World War Two at the National Arboretum.
As advised in the answer I gave to Question 78038 on 18 October 2025, the Ministry of Defence maintains a longstanding policy that it does not typically establish or fund memorials. The normal expectation is that new memorials will be supported through private donations or public subscription and established with the agreement of the relevant local authority. On that basis, there are no plans to assess the potential merits of establishing a memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum, to commemorate Liberation Task Force 135.
To ask the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, whether (a) Jersey and (b) Guernsey will be included in the proposed digital ID card scheme.
To ask the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, whether (a) Jersey and (b) Guernsey will be included in the proposed digital ID card scheme.
The Government has announced plans for a new digital ID that will be available for all UK citizens and legal residents aged 16 and over.
The British Nationality Act 1981 confers British citizenship on individuals with close connections to the United Kingdom.
Holders of passports issued in the Bailiwick of Jersey and the Bailiwick of Guernsey are full British citizens and so will be eligible for the new digital ID.
As self-governing jurisdictions, it will be for the Bailiwick of Jersey and the Bailiwick of Guernsey governments to determine whether any future legislation on digital ID should be extended to their jurisdictions.
To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, whether his Department plans to create a memorial to the British Liberation Task Force 135 that freed the Channel Islands in 1945.
To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, whether his Department plans to create a memorial to the British Liberation Task Force 135 that freed the Channel Islands in 1945.
The Ministry of Defence (MOD) deeply values the contribution of Liberation Task Force 135 in ending the occupation of the Channel Islands. While there are currently no plans to create a dedicated memorial, it remains longstanding Government policy that the MOD does not typically establish or fund memorials. These are usually supported through private donations and public subscription, and placed with the agreement of the relevant local authority.

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, what steps his Department is taking to (a) support and (b) develop tidal power technology within the British Channel Islands.
According to a study led by the University of Plymouth, the UK and the British Channel Islands has one of the world’s best tidal resources, estimated to be a potential capacity of around 11.5GW.
The Channel Islands, as Crown Dependencies, are self-governing jurisdictions that are not part of the UK, and so the UK Government is not responsible for energy policy there. DESNZ engages with the CDs on energy matters, including renewable energy policy, under the British-Irish Council Energy Work sector.

To ask the Minister for the Cabinet Office, with reference to the publication of the EU/UK Common Understanding of 19 May 2025, whether any of the measures directly affect (a) the Channel Islands and (b) Gibraltar.
The Common Understanding has the same territorial scope as the Trade and Cooperation Agreement. The Crown Dependencies will be able to benefit from many of the measures if they wish to, including the SPS Agreement. The Government has separate negotiations concerning Gibraltar.

As set out by the Gambling Act 2005, the Gambling Commission regulates gambling in Great Britain only.
Both DCMS and the Commission stand ready to support the Crown Dependencies on matters relating to gambling if requested. The Gambling Commission has a Memorandum of Understanding on Gambling with the Isle of Man regulator, the Gambling Supervision Commission (GSC).

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, what steps her Department is taking to help promote tourism within the Channel Islands.
DCMS is responsible for tourism within England, however the UK Government continues to consult and engage with the self-governing Crown Dependencies within the Channel Islands and their respective tourism boards (Visit Jersey and Visit Guernsey).
These tourism boards for the Channel Islands are accountable to their respective Governments and the UK works in collaboration with the Crown Dependencies on tourism policy issues as part of the Common Travel Area.

Maritime officials within the Department have had no discussions on the long-term provision of ferry services from (i) Poole and (ii) Portsmouth to the Channel Islands.
Ferry services are predominantly run on a commercial basis without UK government intervention. However, where services are pertinent to local and regional objectives, relevant bodies can become involved in the specification of service provision. In this case, we understand that the governments of the States of Guernsey and Jersey have undertaken a procurement process to meet the Islands’ ferry service needs. This is a matter for those States, and therefore this Department has not had discussions with Islands, ferry providers, or unions, in this instance.

To ask the Secretary of State for Education, whether her Department is taking steps to help support the recruitment of early years workers in the Channel Islands.
The department regularly engages with Crown Dependency officials and cross-government stakeholders with an interest in early years.
The Crown Dependencies are self-governing in respect of their own domestic affairs and this matter falls within the jurisdiction of the Channel Island governments.

To ask His Majesty's Government what support they have offered to (1) Jersey, and (2) Guernsey, following the impact of Storm Ciarán.
The Crown Dependencies are responsible for their own contingency planning and emergency response but the UK stands ready to assist them in responding to emergencies where they request additional support.
UK officials were in contact with emergency planners in the Channel Islands during Storm Ciarán but none of the Islands requested any support from the UK.
