Since 2008, the Ministry of Defence has entered into more than 70 contracts with the Chemring group. The total value of these is approximately £102 million.

Where such information is not commercially sensitive, UK Export Finance (UKEF) publishes details of the companies it has supported on an annual basis in its Annual Report and Accounts which are presented to Parliament and can be found on UKEF’s website. These details include the value of UKEF’s support and the destination country of the export. The applications that UKEF has received from Chemring were in connection to a single export contract for bomb disposal equipment with the Indonesian National Police that UKEF supported.

According to our records the Department for International Trade’s Defence and Security Organisation (DIT DSO) has interacted with Chemring or its subsidiaries on 194 occasions since 2007.

That this House condemns the alleged offer for sale of anti-personnel landmines by the UK company Chemring Group, parent company of PW Defence Ltd within this country nearly three years after the permanent ban of these weapons; calls for a police investigation and prosecution of those suspected of committing any offence under the Landmines Act 1998; notes that PW Defence Ltd is a major supplier to the Ministry of Defence and calls upon the MoD to launch its own inquiry into its relations with this firm; calls upon the Government to uphold its obligations under the Ottawa Treaty and ensure the rigorous monitoring of UK arms manufacturers; and commends the investigation by the BBC and Landmine Action into the possible legal sale of these landmines.
