Since 28 April 2022, the NHS COVID Pass travel letter has been available for five to 11 year olds who have received a full primary course of vaccination. A parent or guardian can request the letter via NHS.UK or 119. The feasibility of a digital travel pass for this cohort is currently under review.

The NHS COVID Pass in digital and letter format for both domestic and international use is currently valid for 30 days to minimise fraud risk. Expiration dates for the NHS COVID Pass will be kept under review. The expiration date on the letter refers to the validity of the 2D barcode and not the validity of an individual’s vaccination status.

If an individual moves from Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland where they were previously registered with a general practitioner (GP) and registers with a new GP in England, this vaccination data may not appear in the NHS COVID Pass. In these circumstances, individuals should book a face to face appointment at a selected list of vaccination centres in England. This service registers vaccines administered in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland and overseas. Following an appointment, the NHS COVID Pass should record these doses within five days.

When travelling abroad, records confirming receiving the booster vaccination can be accessed using the NHS COVID Pass via the NHS App and NHS.UK. The booster record can be seen in both the Domestic and Travel COVID Pass sections.
From 10 December 2021, an NHS COVID Pass letter can be ordered via the 119 or NHS.UK, if non-digital proof is required for the booster vaccination for international travel. The letter will show a 2D barcode for each vaccination received, including the booster vaccination.

On 15 November 2021, the Government accepted advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) to offer a second dose of the COVID-19 vaccination to all 16 and 17-year-olds. On 29 November 2021, the Government accepted further advice from the JCVI to offer all 12-17-year-olds a second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, with the second dose being offered at a minimum of 12 weeks from their first dose, or 12 weeks after testing positive for COVID-19 infection.
The NHS COVID Pass has been available for people aged 16 or over to demonstrate their COVID-19 status for travel purposes since 17 May 2021. Since 13 December 2021, children in England aged 12-15-years-old who have had a full course of COVID-19 vaccination are eligible for an NHS COVID Pass letter for travel with an internationally recognised 2D barcode, following the decision to offer two doses of vaccine to all 12-15-year-olds in the United Kingdom. From 3 February 2022, all children aged 12 years old and over can access a digital NHS COVID Pass for international travel. The digital travel NHS COVID Pass will provide a record of COVID-19 vaccinations received and evidence of prior infection and recovery. Proof of recovery is available 10 days after a positive National Health Service polymerase chain reaction test, for a total of 180 days after the test date. The NHS COVID Pass will be available via NHS.UK for those aged 12 years old and over and via the NHS App for those aged 13 years old and over. It will not be available via the travel NHS COVID Pass letter. Few countries, including France, require a vaccination or recovery status for under 16 year olds, as most consider under 16 year olds as fully vaccinated or accept proof of testing.
