To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, what steps he is taking with Cabinet colleagues to help young people in Didcot and Wantage constituency find employment.
To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, what steps he is taking with Cabinet colleagues to help young people in Didcot and Wantage constituency find employment.
With around one million young people not in education, employment and training, this Government will not leave an entire generation of young people behind. The Government is investing an additional £2.5 billion by 2029 into the Youth Guarantee and the Growth and Skills Levy.
This investment will support almost one million young people and create up to 500,000 opportunities to earn and learn, including through expanded network of Youth Hubs, earlier intensive support in Jobs Centres through a new Youth Guarantee Gateway, additional work experience and training opportunities, a £3,000 Youth Jobs Grant and £2,000 apprenticeship hiring payment for employers, and a fully funded six month job for long-term unemployed 18–24-year-olds.
In Didcot and Wantage Constituency we are delivering the Youth Guarantee for 18–24-year-olds through Didcot Jobcentre, investing additional support to increase their employability.
This includes increasing the number of Work Experience opportunities, as well as access to Sector-Based Work Academies, Training and Learning.
Work Coaches at the Jobcentre match job-ready young people to vacancies and Apprenticeships, and Jobcentre Recruitment Consultants are increasing employer awareness of the range of Youth Guarantee related hiring incentives to improve employer confidence in recruiting young, often inexperienced candidates to fill their vacancies.

The Government is committed to giving people breathing space and helping with the cost of living.
We have already taken action to tackle rising bills by removing VAT from domestic electricity bills from 1st October. This will take around £45 off the yearly Ofgem price cap in October, benefitting millions of households this winter - and comes on top of the £150 removed from bills at the last Budget.
In July, the Government also announced a £2 bus fare cap on single tickets in England outside London from 1 January 2027. This will mean millions of passengers could save up to a third off a single journey, helping with the cost of everyday travel and supporting access to work, education, healthcare and leisure.

The Government has committed to delivering the three big shifts that our NHS needs to be fit for the future: from hospital to community; from analogue to digital; and from sickness to prevention. All of these are relevant to improving respiratory health in all parts of the country.
The Government will consider long-term conditions for future waves of modern service frameworks (MSFs), including respiratory conditions. The criteria for determining other conditions for future MSFs will be based on where there is potential for rapid and significant improvements in quality of care and productivity. After the initial wave of MSFs is complete, the National Quality Board will determine the conditions to prioritise for new MSFs as part of its work programme.
NHS England and the Department of Health and Social Care are working with the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology to explore innovation and policy prioritisation in respiratory health, including the cross‑Government alignment that may be required.

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what steps he is taking to help improve access to trials for new dementia treatments in Didcot and Wantage constituency.
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what steps he is taking to help improve access to trials for new dementia treatments in Didcot and Wantage constituency.
The Department is committed to ensuring that all patients, including those with dementia, have access to cutting-edge clinical trials and innovative, lifesaving treatments.
The Department funds research and research infrastructure through the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) which supports National Health Service patients, the public, and NHS organisations across England to participate in high-quality research, including clinical trials into dementia.
The Department, via the NIHR, is also investing nearly £50 million into the Dementia Trials Network, a coordinated network of trial sites across the United Kingdom, which will offer people with dementia the opportunity to take part in early phase clinical trials irrespective of where they live. This is complemented by the £20 million Dementia Trials Accelerator, designed to position the United Kingdom as the destination of choice for late phase clinical trials in dementia and neurodegenerative diseases.
In partnership with Alzheimer’s Society, Alzheimer’s Research UK, and Alzheimer Scotland, the NIHR delivers Join Dementia Research, an online platform which enables the involvement of people with and without a dementia diagnosis, as well as carers, to take part in a range of important research, including studies evaluating potential treatments for dementia.
The NIHR also provides an online service called 'Be Part of Research', which promotes participation in health and social care research by allowing users to search for relevant studies, including those with dementia, and register their interest.
The NIHR South Central Regional Research Delivery Network supports the delivery of dementia studies and increased patient participation and timely access to clinical trials for NHS organisations serving the Didcot and Wantage constituency, this is complemented by NIHR Biomedical Research Centres, including the NIHR Oxford Biomedical Research Centre in developing cognitive, imaging and blood-based biomarkers that support earlier detection.

To ask the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, what discussions he has had with Building Digital UK on the existing levels of (a) fibre and (b) gigabit capable broadband of premises included in Project Gigabit in Didcot and Wantage constituency.
The latest data from the independent website Thinkbroadband.com shows that in the Didcot and Wantage constituency, over 52% of premises have access to full fibre broadband, and 86% can access a gigabit-capable broadband connection (>1000 Mbps).
To improve this further, Gigaclear is currently delivering two contracts as part of Project Gigabit that will bring gigabit-capable broadband to approximately 10,000 eligible premises across Oxfordshire, including in the Didcot and Wantage constituency.
We are, of course, delivering 1.5 million homes, but we are also creating communities for the future. The hon. Gentleman is right that that must include good schools, GPs and reliable transport links, which is what makes a good community. Just today we have announced an additional £350 million to deliver more affordable homes so that more people can realise the dream of home ownership.
